Lexia is an adaptive software tool used for tiered reading intervention under the direct supervision of a teacher. This option is available to students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that indicates an area for growth in decoding or phonological awareness. Following an initial placement test, students receive personalized weekly usage goals and tasks tailored to their specific needs. As the software adapts to student performance, it identifies areas for further development where a student requires face-to-face support from a teacher. A package of practice materials is available for essential practice to develop consolidation.
Lexia can support students to:
complete an individualized placement test to establish weekly usage goals and starting points
engage in explicit instruction and targeted practice in phonological awareness, the alphabetic principle, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
receive feedback and scaffolding as the software adjusts to their responses
access opportunities for practice and consolidation to ensure new skills are mastered
participate in direct, face-to-face lessons with their teacher when the program identifies an area for further development
use supplemental practice materials at home or school to reinforce progress made during instruction at school
