Terry Fox Update 2022-2023

We had an amazing day on the 29th, with many families coming out to support us along our community walk.

So far, we have raised $7233.!!!!!!!!!!! Online donations finish Friday, October 7th, and we are inching closer to our grandest total yet. Thank you so much.

October 28th is our "STAFF CHALLENGE" at our assembly. I fear I may once again be in a unicorn onesie!!

Here are some pictures from the 29th.

The Terry Fox walk/run will take place at Gledhill on the morning of September 29th!

In preparation for the walk, please take note of the following details…

1. All fundraising will be done exclusively through the www.terryfoxschoolrun.org website. Click on the “menu”and “Find a school”, enter “Gledhill Junior Public School”. Please make sure to include the name(s) of the student(s)you are supporting as we will be conducting a t-shirt draw on the day of our school walk. Please do not send any cash or cheques to the school. Please submit all online donations by Friday, October 7th.

2. Classes are invited to join a live Zoom presentation with Terry Fox’s brother, Fred Fox, on September 23rd at 10:30 a.m. in their classroom. It will be a 20 minute presentation followed by a 20 minute Q&A where students can ask Fred questions.

3. If you or your child would like to purchase a bilingual T-shirt, the adult shirt is $25, and youth size is $20. (See image below.) In order for you to receive the shirts prior to our school run, please order under the “shop” section of the “menu”, as soon as possible.

4. We will continue to have fun physical activities, such as the “Marathon of Hope” at recess and during gym classes, as well as great grade appropriate, bilingual resources for students to use in their classrooms.

5. We are beginning to organize another “Terry Teacher Challenge” event where we will invite teachers to volunteer to do something fun based on the funds raised… Stay tuned for more on that!

Thank you in advance for all of your incredible support!!!

MR. WEBB WAS 6 YEARS OLD, AND WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO DONATE SOME MONEY TO THE MARATHON OF HOPE!

ONE OF MY EARLIEST MEMORIES IS LINING THE STREETS OF PICKERING VILLAGE, WHERE MY GRANDFATHER WAS A REVEREND AT ST. GEORGE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH. I CAN REMEMBER SEEING TERRY RUN BY, AND THE EXCITEMENT OF THE CROWD AND ENERGY ON THE DAY. BY THE TIME HE REACHED US, HIS MOMENTUM HAD BUILT TO EPIC PROPORTIONS, AND I ENJOY WATCHING THE VIDEOS FOR WHEN HE WAS AT SCARBOROUGH CIVIC CENTRE, KNOWING THAT I HAD SEEN HIM RIGHT AROUND THAT DAY.

TRULY A CANADIAN HERO, AND ONE OF MY MAIN INSPIRATIONS.

This year will be Gledhill's 21st year supporting the Terry Fox Foundation. Prior to COVID, we raised over $5000. for 7 years in a row, and we hope to once again reach that goal.

We thank our community so much for supporting us each year.
