October 22nd
This post is particularly painful.
I feel for our team and these boys. They truly worked very hard to get to the Conference finals, and to lose 1-0 to a team that I feel we were better than is tough. Having seen the team Kew beat in the finals, I am certain we are the best the South has to offer. Knowing that same team will represent the South at the City finals is also a difficult pill to swallow.
First, I want to recognize these boys. I've been with many of them for 7 years now, and I know them well. Our relationship is strong. They have shown up for 2 years, striving for excellence. I couldn't be more proud. They continue to check in with me throughout the day, and I make of point of checking in with them. It's a strong group, both on and off the field.
I also want to thank you parents. I have the support of too many to count at Gledhill, and time and again you show up to cheer and encourage, and consol. There's never a time I don't feel the Gledhill community behind me and whatever team it is that I'm coaching, I'm grateful to you all for entrusting your sons and daughters with me.
I have parents that bring the tent, bring me a coffee, go home to get forgotten cleats.
I have parents that send amazing pictures.
I have parents that are there each morning for 7:45am and don't leave.
I have parents that ride with the team on the subway.
I have parents that come to every game, and some that come to as many as they can. And please, don't feel bad if you can't make it, because I had my daughter in the South finals today for cross country and I couldn't be there. I knew my team would need me and I chose to be at school.
I have parents that are looking into nets for our school for next year.
I have parents that reach out to say thank you for everything that I am able to do, even if I wish I could do more.
I have parents that reach out in the am to let me know if their son is going to be sick, or away due to running a 5K, or got injured in a hockey game, or needs to sleep in because they watched the Jays game. lol
Final message for soccer, is that I have parents and kids that I wouldn't trade for anyone or anything else.
Thank you for a great season.
October 20th
With the game firm for 11am, I have asked the boys to come to school for attendance tomorrow with their teachers, and then meet me in the basement after. We will travel to the subway around 9am and head to Central Tech. Back by maybe 1:30-2pm.
October 19th
Our schedule has changed for Tuesday. I hope to know later today, but as of now, our semi final game is showing us at 11am, NOT 8:30am.
I'll post more later today if there are any other changes.
Practice tomorrow morning.
This is the new schedule for the 21st as of 9:18am Sunday............shouldn't I be setting my NFL fantasy team, getting the game on from London, England and then gearing up for the Jays later this eve?!!!! lol
New Schedule
October 17th
Any parents interested in travelling with the team, feel free to join us. Love to have you come down on the train and be with the team. One big Tiger family.
I have a decent feeling about Tuesday!!
October 16
Playoff update.......
Scouting report has it that Kew Beach won against Secord today in a shoot out. This is good news. It means we play Kew Beach in the semi finals on the 21st at 8:30am.
We tied Secord and were def. competitive against them. Kew Beach beat Williamson with a score of 1-0, and from what I hear, Secord was in the Kew Beach zone for about 70% of the game. Should be a nice battle vs Kew to get to the South final.
Please reach out to me regarding your plans for the 21st. I would like to know who is going to take their athlete to Central Tech themselves, and who is planning to travel with me via subway. We will travel to Bathurst and walk to Central Tech. I'd say it will take about 45 min.
Central Tech is at 725 Bathurst st.
I know it's early, but I think I have to have the team meet me at 7am on Tuesday. We will meet in the gym, get ready and go. If we win game 1, we play again at 10:10am for the South final and be back at Gledhill approx. 1pm.
If we lose game 1, we will be back at school for late am.
October 16
Great game yesterday!
3-1 win vs Williamson. The boys played really well and certainly deserve a chance to play for the South finals.
This is the schedule for October 21st as of this morning. We likely play the winner of Kew Beach and Secord in the semis. Hoping at least knowing the times might help you plan for next week.
Practices will be this am, 7:45am.....indoor. I'd like to chat a bit with the boys and go over yesterday and some strategies for the 21st.
Outdoor practice on Monday, October 20th, 7:45am.
GRADE 5 AND 6 BOYS SOCCER - CENTRAL TECH - D1 AND D2
Friday update.......
Hot off the press!
Williamson road was second in their pool, making us match up against them in the quarter finals. With no nets at Gledhill, we are not able to host this game, unless I can find some nets that are suitable and get them here. Not really feasible at this point TBH.
So I have arranged for us to go to Williamson road for our game on Wednesday, October 15th. Williamson has a Grade 6 tournament on that day, so when they are finished, we will play our game. Looking like a 2pm kick off time.
The boys can eat lunch as normal at Gledhill, and then come see me outside my office at 11:45am. We will walk to the subway and get off at Main street to bus down to Williamson. l will then bring the boys back to Gledhill and dismiss from here. If you are taking your athlete home with you after the game, please let me know.
Practice on Tuesday next week.
