DANCE AND DRAMA ACTIVITIES

Week 9: Monday June 1 - Friday June 5

Hi Boys and Girls,

I hope you enjoyed Arts Week. I can’t wait to see all of your creations!

This week I thought it would be fun to play with magic. I want you to think of a magical power you always wanted to have or you have read about. As a child, I always wanted to have a magic carpet and fly! I would like you to choose an object or better yet, create a magical object with materials you find inside your home or outside. Other examples could be a paintbrush that guides your hands and paints masterpieces or a fishing pole that pulls anything you wish for out of a lake, etc. Create a short play/scene about one day discovering your magical object. What magic power does it have? Where did you discover it? What character or animal are you? Where are you (setting, time, place)?

Please send your short plays to me at anna.psarologos@tdsb.on.ca and enjoy creating! You can also draw a picture and write about your magical object(s) and its discovery.

Sending you all ‘magical’ wishes,

Ms. Psarologos : )

Week 7: Monday May 18 - Friday May 24

Hi Boys and Girls,

I just wanted to say how impressed I am with the work you have been sending me. Your creativity and hard work is really appreciated.

This week I would like you to make your own puppet(s) and put on a short play or introduce your characters to me. When you put on a show there are a few things that are involved such as: setting/scene, script and characters. Try making a plan first by writing the things you need or draw out your ideas. You can use household objects to make your puppet(s). I have added some ideas below but feel free to use your imagination and create a puppet from the different materials you can find in your home. If you don’t have time to create a background or scene, you can easily act out your play on top of a table or floor, outside (if weather permits), etc. Have fun with it and try changing your voice and expression for each character.

Week 6: Monday May 11 - Friday May 15

Hello Boys and Girls,

Thank you to everyone that sent me their work last week. You are all working very hard, keep up the great work!

I was thinking that this would be the perfect week to get a little bit silly. In our drama class we usually have opportunities to be silly, so why not? My challenge for this week involves speaking ‘gibberish.’ Gibberish means speaking with silly sounds that don’t mean anything, but still communicating what you want to say with meaning and intention. I would like you to choose someone in your household to speak gibberish to (ie. A parent, a sibling, etc.) One person can speak Gibberish, and the other person can translate and guess what you are saying in English. An add-on could be both that both parties speak Gibberish to each other acting out a scenario. Make up a scenario (ie. You are at the ice cream store and someone bumps into you and you spill your ice cream cone, you are outside flying a kite and it gets caught on a branch, etc.) The most important thing is that you have fun and you try your best to stay in character.

Important things to remember are: gestures, body language, facial expressions, and your voice. Hope to see your gibberish acting! Please remember to send me a video or message by email: anna.psarologos@tdsb.on.ca if you would like to share your experience.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Ms. Psarologos : )

Week 5: Monday May 4 - Friday May 8

Bonjour amis,

Thank you to everyone that sent me your feelings dance last week. They were very creative and I enjoyed watching every single one of them.

This week I would like you to think of your favourite movie (or show). I then want you to think of your favourite character and re-enact your favourite part. You can do this by yourself (monologue) or ask a family member to play a scene in the movie with you. One way I like to get into character is by dressing the part. Meaning, I find things in my wardrobe that will match with my characters’ costume or personality. If you can’t find clothes that match your character, be creative and make a prop or accessories with household objects (ex. Toilet paper rolls, cardboard from cereal box, etc.) Think about how your character is feeling in the scene you are about to act out (are they happy, sad, or scared, etc.) I want you be creative and have fun doing this drama activity. Getting into character is the best part!

Remember that in dance and drama, there is no right or wrong answer as long as we are trying our best and having fun. We all feel and express our emotions and movements differently, that is what makes us so special. Please remember to send me a video or message by email: anna.psarologos@tdsb.on.ca if you would like to share your experience. Can’t wait to see your work!

Hope to hear from you soon,

Ms. Psarologos : )

Week 4: Monday April 27 - Friday May 1

Hi Boys and Girls,

Thank you to everyone that sent me your movement videos. I loved seeing what you created. Being able to see your faces put a smile on my face. I felt overwhelmed with emotions of happiness and hope, which is why this week our focus will be on feelings. Feelings are interesting because they can change so quickly from one moment to another.

This week I would like you to create a ‘feelings’ dance. I would like you to write down 3-5 feelings you are feeling today (or maybe feelings you have felt this past week). For each emotion, I would like you to come up with a movement or action that goes along with it. If you would like to challenge yourself ADD a sound/ or phrase to go with each ‘feeling’ movement. For example, I was feeling frustrated today. My movement would be a stomping movement using my whole body. The sound that I would accompany my ‘feeling’ emotion is a shriek or a shouting sound. Practice each ‘feeling’ movement one after another, allowing for short pauses in between each movement. Practice until you feel confident about each ‘feeling’ movement. Remember that practicing makes us better learners!

If you do not feel comfortable sending me a video of your ‘feelings’ dance, you can send me your different feelings and a picture to go along with each emotion.

Sending you all positive thoughts and wishes.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Ms. Psarologos : )

Week 3: Monday April 20 - Friday April 25

Hi everybody,

I hope you and your families are doing well. This week I am challenging you to make patterns with your body! Try and make a pattern with your body, just like in the Make a Pattern song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoFhVdYsmPg

There are so many patterns to choose from (ex. AB, ABB, ABC, ABCD etc.) Make your own pattern and be creative with your movements. Practice it and get someone in your household to do it with you. Remember to use different parts of your body (ex. Hands, feet, knees, head, hips, etc…) Just like in class, try and use different levels and think about the direction of your movements (ex. Up/down, side-to-side, etc.)

If you have time, write the words for your pattern like this: JUMP, JUMP, CLAP, TURN, JUMP, JUMP, CLAP, TURN. Try and come up with 5 different patterns all by yourself. Enjoy!

Please remember to send me a video or message by email: anna.psarologos@tdsb.on.ca, I would love to see what you come up with!

Have fun creating!

Ms. Psarologos : )
