(Bonus: Find 3 food items or objects that can be equally divided into fifths or more!)

Task B: Choose 5 objects or food items. For each object or food item, find out how you could share it equally for each question below.

-What is something that you could share with one person? How would you share it?

-What is something that you could share with two people? How would you share it?

-What is something that you could share with three people? How would you share it?

**Bonus Questions:

-What is something that you could share with five people? How would you share it?

-What is something that you could share with six people? How would you share it?

(Example: I chose a piece of white paper. I would share this paper with one person by folding it in half, so that there are two pieces that are the same size. Then I would cut it in the middle, so that each of us gets half of it).

Bonjour mes amis! J'espère que vous avez passé un excellent week-end! J'espère vous voir ce mercredi et ce jeudi!

This week, your tasks are to:

1) If your favourite song were a colour, what colour would it be? Create an artwork for your song on a surface (e.g. drawing on a piece of paper, use chalks to draw on sidewalk, use found materials and put them together in the backyard).

2) Read the book assigned to you on Raz Kids

(If you didn't get a chance to finish your last book, your task this week is to read it).

3) Do an activity with the Sound of the Week

letter y: sound < y / i >

Letter y song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXZFRmstP60

  • Letter y makes “y” sound with the vowel (a, e, i, o, u)

Examples: crayon, yoyo

  • Letter y makes “i” sound with the consonant (other letters of the alphabet that are not vowels)

Examples: pyjama, stylo

Then do one of the activities below!

- Use a different voice to read aloud book(s) to someone. Try to read a few sentences on a page, read words with the sound <y/i>, and/or read an entire page of book(s) with your different voice. (Examples: monster voice, quiet voice, opera voice, robot voice)

-Mime or act out page(s) of book(s) that you read that has/have the sound <y/i>.

-Do a research: what are other words that have the sound <y/i> that you can find?

4) Read the book assigned to you on EPIC

(If you didn't get a chance to finish your last book, your task this week is to read it).

5) Complete your assignment (Assignment #9) on Prodigy

6) Math task: probability

Watch the video about probability (video shared with your family)

More Probability: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_LWq_61XKA

Celebrate Probability: https://www.tfo.org/en/universe/mathxplosion/100772737/let-s-celebrate-probability

Important vocabulary words:

-une roulette (a spinner, used for games)

-juste/injuste (fair/unfair)

-tirer (to draw/pick something)

-impossible (impossible)

-moins probable (less likely)

-également probable/possible (equally likely/possible)

-plus probable (more likely)

-certain (certain)

Sentence prompts :

  • Il est ___________ de tirer (objet + couleur).

(It is __________ to pick (colour + object)).

  • Il est ___________ de tirer (objet + couleur 1) que (objet + couleur 2).

(It is __________ to pick (colour + object 1) than (colour + object 2)).

  • Il est également probable/possible de tirer (objet + couleur 1) mais aussi (objet + couleur 2)

(It is equally likely/possible to pick (colour + object 1) but also (colour + object 2)).

Examples:

-Il est certain de tirer un bonbon bleu.

(It is certain to pick a blue candy).

-Il est moins probable de tirer un bonbon vert qu’un bonbon brun.

(It is less likely to pick a green candy than a brown candy).

Your task: Do one or more of these! Then send picture(s) to Mme!

Task A: Create your own game by diving the spaces inside the spinner.

Think about:

-if you want your game to be fair or unfair

-if you want to include a prize if a paper clip of the spinner lands on a particular space

-if you want to add colour and/or words to be able to see different spaces

To spin the spinner, place a paper clip at the center and hold it in place with a pencil. Play it with a family member!

Task B: Create your own board game

Think about:

-on which space(s) you want to include prizes (e.g. move 2 spaces forwards, change places with someone else) or consequences (e.g. you lose a turn, someone else rolls the dice for you)

-if you want to have special prizes/consequences if rolled dice shows a particular number (e.g. number 6 = you get to move 1 space forward as a bonus)

-how many dice you want to use (e.g. one dice? two dice?)

-if you don’t want to use dice, how people will move their game piece (e.g. Player 1 chooses a player and do rock, paper, scissors. The winner moves 2 spaces forwards)

Task C: Inside a bag, put in 20 objects of 3 different colours (example: 10 white, 6 green, 4 red beads). If you close your eyes and choose one, how likely are you to choose that colour? (e.g. white? green? red?) Use probability vocabulary words to describe the likelihood of each scenario.

Task D: Sit by a window or by a quiet space. Make up 5 different likelihood of events by writing/drawing them on a piece of paper. You can make them as creative as you would like!

Example 1: Il est impossible de voir un bonhomme de neige dehors. (It is impossible to see a snowman outside).

Example 2: Il est plus probable de voir un garçon/une fille avec son vélo. (It is more likely to see a boy/girl with his/her bike).

Example 3: Moins probable (less likely) = drawing of a hockey player holding a baseball bat.

Week 12: June 22-25

Bonjour mes amis! J'espère que vous avez passé un excellent week-end.

Cette semaine est la dernière semaine d'école! C'est aussi le moment de s'amuser!

J'espère vous voir au défilé et à notre Google Meet!

This week, your tasks are to:

1) What do you see in the optical illusions? What does your family member see? Try them out!

https://sciencebob.com/see-some-optical-illusions/

2) Math-a-day!

Your task: Do one or more of these! Then send picture(s) to Mme!

  • Monday: Fun with Numbers

Can you make each of the numbers 0 to 9 using your whole body? Recreate your phone number, house number, library card number…etc!

  • Tuesday: Target Toss

Create a target on the floor or outdoors by drawing a big circle in the center on a piece of paper or cardboard. Standing 10 big steps back, toss a bean bag/soft toy/rolled sock/paper rolled into a ball toward the target. After each toss, measure the distance between the bean bag and the target.

How will you measure? Use an item that has length (e.g. yarn, string, straw). Your best score is the shortest length.

*Variation: Use a container and tape to create the target on the floor and use tape to make sure that it doesn’t move.

  • Wednesday: Be an artist

Gather together a collection of small items (e.g. blocks, beans, beads, chocolate balls, toothpicks). Fold a piece of paper in half. Create a symmetrical design.

*Symmetry= when something is the same on both sides of a line.

  • Thursday: Two steps forwards

Draw or use an object to set up a line. Toss an object (e.g. button, coin, bottle cap). When it lands face up, the thrower takes 2 steps forward. When it lands face down, the thrower takes 2 steps backwards. Play with a family member and see who can be the first!

Questions to think about:

-Is the object that you’ve used to throw (e.g. bottle cap) likely to land face up or face down? Which side is more likely?

-Would it be better to take steps forward when the object lands face down instead?

3) STEAM-a-day!
