As shown in this piece, an orange and white koi fish is swimming upstream. Koi fishes are commonly associated with perseverance, luck, and courage. In relation to this, the action of swimming upstream represents striving to overcome obstacles and struggles. Similarly, this whole meaning relates back to the current situation we are in; persevering through these circumstances and overcoming obstacles. This includes adapting to our new way of living and figuring out what we should do along this whole journey.

This illustration is meant to show the variety of different activities you can do at home during these times. Keep in mind that there are many more activities to do that aren't illustrated. The activities are all in their personal (colourful!) bubbles to emphasize the importance of social distancing, but it is also meant to show that there are many things to do and many ways to have fun in your own bubble (at home).

This acrylic painting displays a tall yellow bottle in front of a deep indigo background, melting The bright yellow is a colour of joy, hope, energy, and optimism. Hence, it symbolizes that some impossible things can be possible, as long as you try and remain hopeful. Although indigo is a beautiful colour, it can represent being judgemental, intolerant, and inconsiderate. Therefore, with the optimism of yellow, the impossible from the blue, can be made possible.

This illustration was originally planned before the Spring break, when I was imagining the amount of homework I would have received once I returned to school. The illustration shows a stack of papers, and other sheets of paper flying around in a flurry in a storm. Hopefully, this illustration would have reflected the schedule of most students. Of course, now that school has been closed and school work has been moved online, maybe the illustration should be changed to “Flight of the PDFs”!

This artwork is my own interpretation of the physical exterior of Bethune. Instead of the regular visual of the school, I included a blend of colours as the sky and a space view of Earth to make Bethune seem somewhat magical. Earth is certainly not visible from the concrete paths of Bethune, but the meaning behind this artwork goes to show that Bethune, or any school for that matter is capable of offering its staff and students a different perspective.
