JHHS Mission: 100% graduation, 100% college and career ready
The Jackson Hole High School Counseling Department provides academic, career, college and personal/social counseling to ALL students. Specifically, our academic, college and career programming is designed to support students as they create their four-year high school plan, develop and implement skills necessary to be successful, choose classes that align with their educational and career goals, and make plans for life after high school.
All students at Jackson Hole High School are assigned a school counselor who will support their development. Emily Hoffer (12th), Jessica Wienholt (11th), Lisa Husband (10th), and Sarah Tenney (9th) will be the point person for individualized academic, college/career, and personal/social counseling. Stacey Grohne is our school social worker who works with all students. Everyone works in tandem to provide systemic, small group, and/or individual personal and social support for our students. In addition, we collaborate with community partners to provide other developmental learning opportunities for our students. Much of our collaborative work as a department is designed around the common purpose of ensuring that 100% of our students are, indeed, ready for their postsecondary goals.
The question of how young people become successful postsecondary students is a big one today. Research tells us that students who spend time exploring their personalities, interests, and strengths before graduating from high school are more likely to find a postsecondary environment in which they flourish, choose a major with which they are satisfied, and graduate on time with a degree they use in a career they enjoy. As a result, more attention is being paid to the academic development and social skills our students need to be successful after high school. With that in mind, we welcome you to to this years program of studies as well as our college/career and personal/social programming.
Wherever your child is in his or her high school career, we encourage you to spend some time talking about his or her course selection. Check in on your child’s progress toward the Hathaway Scholarship. Consider the different options to earn free college credits through Advanced Placement courses or Concurrent Enrollment classes offered in partnership with Central Wyoming College (CWC). Discuss how certain elective or Career and Technical Education (CTE) elective classes complement a potential career interest.
The counseling office is open during the school year from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. To make an appointment, call, stop by, or e-mail your student’s counselor.
