INDIGENOUS EDUCATION COORDINATOR PROGRAM UPDATE
Indigenous Education students share jokes with Captain Jamie for an opportunity to steer the Manitou! June 22, 2023 Title VI Sail
Aanii! Behneh!
I would like to take this opportunity to say chi miigwech to the families, students, Indigenous Education Kiinomaage, Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Education Program/Cultural Program/Elected Leadership, and TCAPS for an exceptional school year working as your new Indigenous Education Coordinator. A special thank you to Amber Ochoa for being by my side every step of the way providing guidance, support, and encouragement! I'm most appreciative of everyone's kindness and community extended not only to myself but my family.
This 22/23 school year we had the opportunity as a program to connect with one another on varying occasions. Some of those opportunities for connection were in the classroom, Parent Committee meetings, on-site Indigenous Education rooms, powwow workouts, Odemin teaching, smudging together, around our future food sovereignty garden, in the school front office, playing kickball, and most recently sailing on the Manitou!
I'm looking forward to this upcoming school year and connecting through culture and education! We will have an opportunity to meet at least once a month with students and families for various evening activities to promote community and culture. Information will be shared through TCAPS communications and this newsletter! The Indigenous Ed newsletter will resume in September 2023 as I too will soon be on summer break with the kiddos. I will be monitoring emails and the program cellphone during summer break. Please email me if you have ideas for evening activities! This request is not limited to just ideas for evening activities, feel free to reach out any time you would like to share ideas, feedback, or seeking resources. After all, our program is here to serve you!
Again, thank you, oose, peshaiyu for allowing me the opportunity to help with our next generation, it has been an honor and privilege.
Respectfully,
Summer Baldwin
