Hello Eytzim Families,
We began our week with meeting a new friend named, Mat Man. He is part of the writing program that we use to learn to form letters. Mat Man is made by using a series of large and small lines, large and small curves. All letters are formed with these shapes. In using these shapes the children drew their first self-portraits. They were given a mirror and asked to draw themselves. We asked them to notice the color of their eyes, nose and mouth, the color of their hair and if it is straight or curly. Their portraits are amazing! And they are hanging up in our room.
We talked about the anatomy of apples. We broke it down to the stem, leaf, skin, flesh, core and seeds. We even found a star inside. The children colored an apple, then they were asked to cut them out. Of course we backed them, had the children sign their names and they are now hanging proudly in our room!
We also had an apple taste test. The children were given three different apples. Red Delicious, Granny Smith and Fuji. After they tasted all of them we took a vote. The consciences is, Fuji apple won with 8 votes. Red Delicious apple had 2 votes and Granny Smith apple had 6 votes.
On Tuesday we measured the children by apples. Then we made a chart , “How many apples tall are you?” showing different patterns of apple. If you look closely at the chart, you will notice that the children chose many different patterns. I was pretty proud of them!
On Wednesday we had our first Hebrew class with Michal. The children were so excited to see her. The subject this week was Boker tow - ( good morning) and boker or - (good light) Michal gave the children pictures of the sun - (shemish) and a picture of children getting out of bed. She asked the children to hold up the correlating pictures as she said the phrases. Then she tried to trick them. Lots of giggles occurred. She reminded the children of movement words that they had learned last year. Stop- (la at zor),– walk (La le chet), run- (la rootz) and jump - (leek foot). Then she play a song and the children danced to it using all these words. More giggles.
On Wednesday we made a Friendship wreath. The children took turns painting each other’s hands. It is awesome! A great way to learn to work together. Look for it on the door leading to the Regulation Station.
Thursday was a big apple day for us. We began by using an apple spiralizer. Did you know that an apple peel is longer that 7 feet! The children had fun turning the handle and watching the apple get peeled and cut into spirals at the same time! They came out looking like apple slinkies. They were yummy!
Then we moved on to making Apple Cinanminamin Mini Donuts. The children measured, poured, whisked, stirred to create an amazing batter that smelled so good and when baked Tasted even better! Then to finish our day we had a snowball fight! It was a great day in preschool!
On Friday is was so nice to have Ellie’s dad and Emery’s mom to come in and help us make our challahs. The children enjoyed pulling, rolling and braiding the dough into their own challah to take home and share with their families. It is so nice to share Shabbat with our friends, families and of course the Rabbi’s.
Love,
Your Teachers,
Jackie & Michelle

Birthday Celebrations:
To make your child's day special, each teacher will do a little something to make him/her feel special i.e, read a book, make a crown and/or a special leadership opportunity. As Shabbat takes precedence, we will not celebrate birthdays on Fridays. Please email your classroom teacher to determine the appropriate birthday plan and possible treat item (either one, food or nonfood) for your child’s special day. While we encourage nonfood items (ex. stickers, box of crayons, donate books to the classroom), if you feel so inclined to send a food item, this needs to be individually wrapped. Be sure to ask your child’s teacher if anyone in the class has a food allergy. We ask that you NOT cubby birthday party invitations or birthday party thank you notes.
