Weekly Update
9/5/2025
Hi Room 14/Dagim Families!
It was a hot but fun week in Dagim!
Here is what we did this week:
On Tuesday, during morning circle we talked about their new classroom jobs for the week, why we had Monday off (Labor Day), and introduced our gluing activity for that day. During snack we read “Too Much Glue” and talked to the children about why we only use a dot of glue when making art. There were lots of thoughtful answers like how the glue wouldn’t dry or the paper could rip. After snack, we started our collage and glue activity which involved the kiddos glueing sequins and pom poms all over the first letter of their name. Some chose to add stickers as well, but all of their art looked so wonderfully different and unique.
We read, “Too Much Glue”, "Sandwich Swap", and "Butterfly Beach”.
On Wednesday, we had our first Hebrew class with Teacher Michal! She welcomed the students back with some familiar words and played a call and response game with picture signs to represent the sun saying Good Morning and the children saying Good Morning back. After that game, Michal played a song and led the children to walk around, jump around, and run around before stopping the music. She finished the class with Shalom Chaverim, saying goodbye to all the children.
The Hebrew vocabulary words this week are:
Boker Tov: Good Morning
Boker Or: How you respond to Good Morning (Boker Tov)
Latso: Stop
Larutz: Run
Likfutz: Jump
Lalechet: Walk
Kibuk: Hug
Todah: Thank You
Bevakasha: You’re Welcome
For activity, we measured all of the children with apples to fill out our classroom chart of How Many Apples Tall Are We. The kiddos then used stickers to mark how many apples they were on the chart.
After rest time, we played Hurry Up Chicken Butt and Magic ABC Box. The kiddos got a chance to pull out a mystery item and place it on the corresponding letter that the item starts with.
We read, “Cat in the Hat Comes Back”, “Marley goes to School”, and “Waiting”.
On Thursday, we had our first music class with Miss Melo. She started the class by singing Shalom to everyone in the class. Afterwards, the kiddos received scarves and danced to songs with them. Miss Melo helped the kiddos calm their bodies with her song about oceans, rivers, and fountains. Finally, she finished the class with Shalom Chaverim in Hebrew, English, and Spanish.
For activity, we made Banana Ice Cream! The kiddos got to take turns turning on the food processor and pushing the bananas down with a spatula. After it was blended into yummy ice cream, the children scooped some out and chose their toppings.
We read, "The Pigeon Will Ride the Roller Coaster”, “We Honestly Can Look After Your Dog”, and “Princesses Wear Pants”.
On Friday, we celebrated Shabbat with Rooms 13 and 15, TK/K and the Rabbi. The children love dancing, singing and praying with their friends! Our Shabbat Star this week was Livia! She was so excited to show her visitors our classroom. In the morning, the kiddos got to make their own challah and added their toppings!
The children made colorful fish art using a new print method with water and shaved chalk. They shaved chalk into the water and then placed their paper on top to create the beautiful watercolor designs.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Warmly,
Mindy and Jessica

Why? to Wow!
This section is for questions that spark lots of discovery and exploration of different concepts.
This week our Why? was: Why do we only use a dot of glue?
The Wow! exploration was: an art activity involving gluing various sequins and pom poms onto the first letter of the childrens' names. With this activity they were able to see firsthand how much glue was necessary for the sequins to stick and what happened when they used too much glue.

Birthday Celebrations:
To make your child's day special, each teacher will do a little something to make him/her feel special i.e, read a book, make a crown and/or a special leadership opportunity. As Shabbat takes precedence, we will not celebrate birthdays on Fridays. Please email your classroom teacher to determine the appropriate birthday plan and possible treat item (either one, food or nonfood) for your child’s special day. While we encourage nonfood items (ex. stickers, box of crayons, donate books to the classroom), if you feel so inclined to send a food item, this needs to be individually wrapped. Be sure to ask your child’s teacher if anyone in the class has a food allergy. We ask that you NOT cubby birthday party invitations or birthday party thank you notes.
