Weekly Update:
9/5/25
Hello Chatoolim Families,
Apples, honey, pomegranates, oh my! The Chatoolim friends have begun learning about Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. They were introduced to foods we eat such as a round challah with sweet additions such as chocolate chips, apples dipped in honey, and pomegranates which remind us how many mitzvot we can do in a year. We began with a simple apple activity where the kiddos chose to make either a red or green apple. They used their fine motor skills to crumple up squares of tissue paper into balls and glued them in the center of their apple. These are displayed on our High Holy Days board. Another new classroom art display is in the writing center. The children used glitter glue to stick on colorful sequins to the first letter of their name. Thursday we tasted three different varities of apples and of course we dipped them in honey. Yum! After munching on some tasty apples, we read the book "The Apple Tree's Discovery" from PJ Library. We saved one apple and explored the different parts of the apple after reading a story called "The Apple Tree's Discovery". The apple tree in the story gets caught up comparing themselves to the other full grown oak trees around them. God tells the apple tree to be patient and by the end of a year the apple tree finds they had what they wanted all along inside. Ask what your kiddo saw when we opened the apple! We used the apple as a stamp with paint and the kiddos cut up the large paper into smaller chunks to save as a part of their Rosh Hashanah card. We will continue to dive deeper into this holiday through studying bees, making sweet applesauce, and then before we know it jumping right into Yom Kippur! Have a beautiful weekend and we will see you all next week for our first full week of school!
Warmly,
Teachers Danielle and Jennifer

Birthday Celebrations:
To make your child's day special, each teacher will do a little something to make him/her feel special i.e, read a book, make a crown and/or a special leadership opportunity. As Shabbat takes precedence, we will not celebrate birthdays on Fridays. Please email your classroom teacher to determine the appropriate birthday plan and possible treat item (either one, food or nonfood) for your child’s special day. While we encourage nonfood items (ex. stickers, box of crayons, donate books to the classroom), if you feel so inclined to send a food item, this needs to be individually wrapped. Be sure to ask your child’s teacher if anyone in the class has a food allergy. We ask that you NOT cubby birthday party invitations or birthday party thank you notes.
