Reflect on how you went during your inquiry. What did you learn?
Explain how you worked toward your goals and how it helped your learning. What worked? What didn’t? What will you do differently next time? How did you improve from the last inquiry? How did your topic choice this time improve your inquiry?
Write your reflection here...
My fourth Inquiry went okay. I think this was because I struggled to get multiple experts, and I only got one this time.
The Social Justice Inquiry was really useful as it taught me that there are many bad things going on in the world and that more people should be aware of these issues. I didn't even know religious persecution was a thing, and that it was so common nowadays. I also learnt that religions conflict instead of just being together, but I guess that's just human nature.
I think my topic choice was bad because I wasn't actually very interested in Christian Persecution.
One of my goals was to stop self-deprecating thoughts. By working on this goal it helped me to improve my learning because it taught me that sometimes, things don't go my way, but that's okay.
The goal I did the best with was helping my self-depreacting thoughts. the reason it went so well was because I made a lot of progress and I thought better and I enjoyed my daily life more.
I was a bit frustrated with how one goal went because I still couldn't get it completely perfect on my numerical data. I need to expand on my inferences instead of just doing a couple sentences. I should write a paragraph on it.
Next time I will really focus on those points. this will help me because then I can get a 5.
Evidence of Term 2 goals being met.
Copy and paste all relevant evidence in the form of screenshots or written explanations of what was done to achieve your 4 goals for Term 2.
e.g. Test results, teacher feedback, parent feedback, peer feedback, your own explantion of things you did etc.
I got a 5 on my numerical data, but that was still higher than normal.
I was much happier this term than I was last term, just because I followed this goal.
I also didn't have as many self-deprecating thoughts to myself, where I was much, much happier.
In math, I raised my hand a lot more than I called out, so I call that a win.
12 Christians are killed daily because of their religion. My great grandmother smuggled bibles into Russia, and the people who took them from her got killed, just because they followed a religion. Hi, I am Ben and my topic is on religious persecution, specifically the persecution of Christians. What I will cover is why are people getting persecuted for their religion? What happens now, and how might we stop this?
Let me start this by asking why are Christians being persecuted for their religion? So many factors to consider, but the greatest is religious nationalism. Religious nationalism means being so in depth with your religion and country, that your religion should be part of the country’s identity and no other religion is allowed. It is not just other religions having a high sense of nationalism. Christians persecute others. A lot of people feel like they can be normal, and others aren’t. This can lead to people being a bit snobby and hurting others because they may not be normal. This can be proven by this; In 2008, attacks on Christians occurred in the Kandhamal district of Odisha, India. This was incited because of an alleged murder of a Hindu monk. More than 395 churches were burnt down. This is horrible. Would you feel okay being targeted because of an allegation from someone else? Would you feel okay with being killed just cause you identify with a religion.
Secondly, what happens now? People are being persecuted, what happens to them? Not good things. These things can range from being beaten up, to being forced into slavery and tortured. You may think that all of these things have only happened in the past, but they are happening right now, as I’m speaking. In Nigeria, churches are being burned by both the government and terroristic militia groups. This is because of religious nationalism, and in the case of Nigeria, Islamic nationalism. Lets say that people beat you up for your interests without much reasoning behind why. This is the case with religious persecution, not just Christian persecution. Instead of just being beaten up, you get tortured, refused of jobs or even killed.
What can we do about this? How can we stop people being persecuted for their religion? If you care about this, you can easily donate to nonprofit organizations helping the lives of these people. People like the Pope have made many speeches calling to governments to stop what is happening to these people. Some agencies like the UN have made humanitarian aid missions to these communities, which has helped them. There are other things such as interfaith peacebuilding, which is where people from other religions talk to each other and do activities together to help each other. To people who have been discriminated against or persecuted for their religion, even just being kind goes a long way.
Christians are not just the ones being persecuted, they are sometimes the ones doing the persecution. All religions persecute others and all religions have been persecuted. 12 Christians are killed daily, but even more people from other religions are killed daily. Just being kind can reduce religious persecution, even if it is one step at a time.
