During the 1999 or early 2000’s my parents migrated from Fiji to New Zealand on a ship. The ship was part of outreach where Christians would go and tell people about God and even have people come along too, who weren’t a part of the original group. The reason my parents chose New Zealand was that is where the missionaries were from and New Zealand had lots of opportunities.
Apimeleki Drugu was born in 1975 on the 27th of October and left his home country in the early 2000s and he got married in 2006. His father died when he was in his teenage years and his mother died in 2013.
Fiji had big storms and storms were so big that they destroyed houses and villages! Storms were really bad and if you happened to be in one of these storms you would have a 5.24% chance of surviving. Plus even if you do survive, the storm would leave debris.
Fiji had lots of bugs and if you are a bug hater then you might as well go somewhere else or even just stay home! One of the Fiji bugs was a bed bug, which would bite you while you were sleeping leaving a red swollen spot showing where they bit you. People would have migrated to NZ because of this.
Push factors are the reasons why some people would migrate, for example, if someone living in a hot country they would want to move to a place where it is a bit colder. The push factor here is the hot weather, Fiji had hot weather and not only that but it also had lots of bugs, therefore, causing some people to leave.
Nz had a lot of pull factors like warm weather, most countries will have this same trait but New Zealand’s weather is even, for example, some days or even a whole week will be rain and the others sunny. The only downside is that it will not snow in most areas, but there are big rivers and 83 days a year it will be sunny. This is an important factor since a few places will just have 1 weather for one year and even if it doesn’t the temperature would be on 1 level.
If you compare New Zealand’s lifestyles to some other countries New Zealand will most likely come on top. For example, NZ is famous for its breathtaking sites and how the first person who climbed Mount Everest was from New Zealand. But New Zealand’s lifestyle is different from other countries for example NZ has a healthier lifestyle and a better education from other countries.
I think pull factor 2 would be the most likely one.
So in conclusion these are some of the reasons why my parents migrated to New Zealand, thank you for listening to my presentation.
