The goal for "Manaaki Marae" is teaching Year 9 students Manaakitanga, meaning hospitality and generosity, refers to the practice of showing kindness, respect, and support to guests and vistors who arrive and visit our school Marae and Wharekai. This involves providing for their needs and comfort, and demonstrating warmth and hospitality. Manaakitanga is an important aspect of our Kura school and community relationships and emphasises a deep sense of community and collective responsibility.
Evidence of Learning
Marae visit to Te Nukuhau o Tapuwae Haruru.
Our students visited Te Nukuhau o Tapuwae Haruru and were fortunate to learn the history of Matua Snow marae and haukainga that he created and made with his Whaanau.
Our Year 9s student learned about Powhiri on the arrival to the Marae of Tapuwae Haruru. Hearing karanga, listening to whaikorero, and learning the history of the whenua land. One of our tauira student Jasper stood to do the whaikorero and thank Matua Snow and Whaea Dinny for having us.
