LEAP Grades 3-8 ELA and Math Shortened Assessments
This year the ELA and math assessments will require less time for administration. See new times below. The test is not designed to be easier, and remains comparable to all prior assessments. Achievement levels will not change. Assessment guides will be posted to the website by the end of the week and will reflect these changes.
No more than three sessions in one day. (Grades-3-8-computer-based-test-scheduling-guidance)
No more than one session that includes an extended-response task or writing prompt. (grades 3-8 Social Studies Session 2, ELA Session 1, and ELA Session 2). (Grades-3-8-computer-based-test-scheduling-guidance)
Each test session must be administered and completed on the scheduled day. The one-day policy for completing test sessions will apply to all subjects and test sessions. (Grades-3-8-computer-based-test-scheduling-guidance)
Test sessions for a single subject must be given in order. For makeup testing only, a student can return and join other students for a testing session before being administered sessions that were administered on a day when the student was not in attendance. (Grades-3-8-computer-based-test-scheduling-guidance)
Test sessions that are completed, locked but not submitted in grades 3-8 do not need to be unlocked for submittal. DRC will submit all these sessions once testing is complete. (A&A Office Hours FAQ 4.30.24)

Cell Phones and Other Technological Devices. If school system and school policy allow for students and personnel to carry cell phones or other similar technological devices with imaging or text-messaging capability, test administrators must make certain that the devices are in the off position while secure test materials are in the vicinity. If a student is in possession of and/or uses a cell phone or electronic device in any manner during the administration of a statewide test, the phone or electronic device must be confiscated until assurance can be evidenced that all traces of information, in print, image, or verbal form, have been removed from all local and cloud storage and that no such traces remain on the device. Violation of the cell phone or electronic device rule may result in a student’s test being voided. Test administrators may have devices, but they must be in the off position while around secure materials, except for devices required for approved accommodations or online assessments or used to provide technical assistance during online assessments. (LEAP 3-8 TA Manual p. iii)
Most middle school students must take both the LEAP grade appropriate subject assessment and the LEAP 2025 high school subject assessment.
There is only one exception: students who are in grade 8 and are enrolled in Algebra I have two options:
Students can choose to take both the LEAP grade 8 mathematics assessment and the Algebra I LEAP 2025 assessment. If both tests are taken, the LEAP grade 8 scores will be used in accountability and the Algebra I assessment will be banked.
Students can choose to take just the Algebra I LEAP 2025 assessment. If this is the only mathematics test that a middle school student takes, the score will be used for accountability regardless of the score earned. (HS FAQ)
