Today's tip is about Discovery Education and the great resources from Louisiana Public Broadcasting. The district pays for this program, which offers many resources for teachers and students. Many of these resources are highlighted in the monthly newsletter. Check out the Educator newsletter for September HERE. Sign up to receive the newsletters HERE.
Shared Drives in Google Drive
Tangi Schools has several Shared Drives set up for teachers to access district and curriculum resources. If you are missing any of the folders below follow the steps linked to "Unhide" hidden shared drives.
Where is My Curriculum? The Employee Portal has some great links for the various curriculum in the content areas. Log in with your TPSS login credentials and expand the Curriculum tab under Teacher Resources
Let's Talk About Spam As a precaution, spam will grab emails that are generated in bulk. If you do not see an email regarding your Vector Training (Safe Schools), check your Spam folder. If spam is hijacking important emails, MARK THEM AS NOT SPAM. *Remember, if it looks, like spam, reads like spam, and makes you feel a little uncomfortable, then it is probably SPAM. Ignore or delete it and do not click any links within the email.
Change Your Location in Register Me
If you have transferred to a new school, be sure to change your location in your Register Me account. You do this under your account profile in the top right corner of your dashboard.
Click the arrow next to your name and choose “Profile”. Then drop down the location menu and choose your new school name.
This checklist is designed with ease and quickness in mind. Simply choose a day each week to check your students’ Chromebooks. Then begin clicking the check boxes. Each column is worth 1 point with the exception of the “Charged” column. It is worth 2 points. We want the students to get in the habit of charging their devices the night before, so that is why this column is worth more. The Checklist will automatically add up the number of points the student earned for that Chromebook Check. You can find the points in the Points column. These are your PBIS points you will give to the students.
When students play with their settings they can sometimes disable very important tools. Checkout how to troubleshoot if a student's microphone is not working, or if they are having an issues when working on a Google Workflow assignment.
Don't open emails from someone you don't know or trust. If it seems fishy, it probably is. Report the message as spam and move on.
Never open an attachment within an email from a company or person you don't know (or that you were not expecting). Attachments can contain viruses, which can seriously damage your computer. Drag these emails to your spam folder. Cyber criminals commonly send malicious links within emails, hoping for unsuspecting persons to load the links and the corresponding malware. Emails from unknown senders can be suspect. It can also pay to exercise caution when clicking on links from persons supposedly within your organization.
Avoid sending any sensitive information over email. When you send a message, you no longer have control over what is done with it or to whom it is forwarded. Sensitive information such as passwords, bank account numbers and social security numbers should never be sent via email.
Never reply to or click on links inside spam emails. Replying to, clicking on links within, or even unsubscribing from spam emails typically only informs the sender that they have found an active email address to which they'll send more spam emails. Instead, report the message as spam.
Avoid unsolicited bulk mail. Unsolicited bulk email messages can fill up your mailbox and become extremely frustrating. To avoid this:
Don't give your email address to sites you don't trust.
Don't post your email address to public places online like message boards, comment boards, or even your personal website.
Keep your personal email private except from people that you really want to hear from. You can set up a second email account for registering for public websites.
