This course is a continuation of French I. Students will expand upon their vocabulary acquisition, increasingly relating concepts to their daily lives, while making comparisons between their culture and that of France and other Francophone countries. They will also be introduced to more highly developed sentence structure and complex grammatical points which will slowly be incorporated, along with the vocabulary, into more communicative activities. Students will develop their proficiency using the 3 modes of communication: interpretive (listening and reading skills), interpersonal (speaking and writing skills) and presentational (speaking and writing skills). Authentic language and cultural materials will be used with more frequency to allow students to integrate their learning into day-to-day life.
Units include, but are not limited to: Returning to school, Health and healthy habits, Paris and its metro system, Belgium and traditional foods for special occasions.

This course continues to build on what was learned in French I and French II. Vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure will expand upon previous topics at a more in-depth level, including the introduction of multiple new verb tenses. Students will be expected to incorporate previous knowledge into their communication skills with more frequency, through activities such as more complex reading passages, longer writing assignments and ever-increasing use of French in the classroom.
Successful completion of this course fulfills many college/university requirements for admission.
Cultural topics will still be related to daily life in France and Francophone countries, but will also begin to delve into other areas such as art, history and literature. Students will develop their proficiency using the 3 modes of communication: interpretive (listening and reading skills), interpersonal (speaking and writing skills) and presentational (speaking and writing skills). Authentic language and cultural materials will be used on a regular basis to allow students to integrate their learning into day-to-day life.

Even though the course will focus on interpersonal speaking as the targeted mode of communication, students can also expect to develop their listening, viewing, and presentational speaking skills. The integrated curriculum will help students to gain proficiency across all modes of communication. The course topics will include but not be limited to: conversations, presentations on personal and academic topics, debates, storytelling, circumlocution, questions, pronunciation, cooking, music, and film.

AP Exam style tasks are incorporated regularly to begin preparing for the exam from the start of the year. Topics covered in this course include but are not limited to: social networking and issues of internet security, style and design, travel, food and its role in cultural traditions, culture and diversity, and the pursuit of happiness.
