Students’ unmet mental health needs can be a significant obstacle to student success in school and life. Eastlake Middle School counselors promote mental health awareness and a school culture that supports social and emotional health. School counselors are trained to provide brief counseling support and crisis intervention and referrals to long-term mental health support. We are trained to identify and provide intervention in areas such as body image, relationships, peer issues, bullying, gender identity, grief, depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. Our goal is to remove barriers to learning and help students be successful in the classroom. School counselors are not licensed therapist and are not trained to provide therapy. However, our goal is to support students in receiving long-term care if needed.
Every year, the Eastlake Middle School Counseling Department presents to 7th grade students regarding student wellness. Transitioning to middle school and adolescence can be a difficult time. This presentation teaches students wellness tips and encourages them to utilize counselors and other trusted adults for support. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/16Xk4orYcBiyq62xN-yF4aPiPb1pJhvBTxmt0HxPEtVQ/edit?usp=sharing
