Follow the steps below to get signed into your new professional account. Be sure to note there are steps in the process you will SKIP, so be sure to read through the steps thoroughly. In addition, you will want to use your own personal email account to sign up and NOT your school email. You can create a free account through Gmail.
Step 1: click this link to go to www.linkedin.comor click on the image below to visit the site and begin the sign in process.
Step 2: Confirm your zip code and click next.
Step 3: Click "Yes" that you are a student and enter your information accordingly. If you are not yet 18, click "No" and add your birthdate. (Note: the start and end year should be set to fit your high school time span.)
Step 4: Choose your reason for joining as "Build my professional network."
Step 5: Check the email account you used to sign up for the confirmation email, and confirm your LinkedIn account (Gmail look in your social tab). At some point, it may ask if you are a robot, fill in the text/number to confirm this.
Step 6: On the next step, be sure to click SKIP and confirm your SKIP in the pop-up.
Step 7: Unless you see people you know on this page, you can SKIP this page as well.
Step 8: Choose your 5 interests. The first four are great to choose, or you can SKIP this step also.
Step 9: SKIP the next step--you do NOT need to add your phone number!
Step 10: If you have a professional head shot ready, you can add it here or you can skip this and add it later. You school photo would suffice here.
Step 11: Again, LinkedIn prompts you to see if you know any of the people they have listed. If you do, you can "connect" with them from here. Otherwise, click "Profile" in the tabs at the top of the page.
Step 12: Once you have arrived at your profile, you can begin to edit your information. Be sure to add: job experience, organizations, awards, education, and a professional headshot photo. You can add additional information beyond this as well. You will eventually want to write a summary that introduces you, your goals, and your objective.
Step 13: From the search bar provided by LinkedIn, search SWCS Career-Tech Post Graduation Support and click to visit the page.
Step 14: Once you have arrived at the SWCS Career Tech page, click "Connect" and if it prompts how you know your connection, click "Friend" and connect.
Step 15: You will eventually see a notification in the upper right-hand corner of your LinkedIn page. The notification will be from me inviting you to join a private group set up for general career support. Be sure to accept this invitation.
