Creating a Curation of Work through a Digital Portfolio

When beginning on your journey of a job hunt in today's digital world, it is highly important to get a leg up on others seeking the same type of employment. Having a digital portfolio helps you showcase your work and highlight information about yourself that could be vital in getting your foot in the door for an interview. By completing a digital portfolio, it also shows that you are willing to put in the extra work that it takes to succeed, which could impress potential employers. Digital Portfolios

Click the "Google Sites" icon to access Google's new account creation and begin the signup process. If students already have a personal Google account that can be deemed professional, they may use it to create their portfolio.

Portfolio Pages:

Everything you need to add content to your Digital Portfolio can be found in the tools panel on the right side of the page.

  • From the "INSERT" tab, you can insert text boxes, images, embed a URL, or upload items. You can also insert anything from your Google Drive including Docs, Slides, Forms, Sheets, Charts, YouTube videos, Calendars, and Maps.
  • From the "PAGES" tab, simply click the "page +" icon to add new pages. To create a sub page, click the three dots and choose "Create Sub Page." This will create a dropdown of pages categorized under another page in the navigation menu. Below are examples of pages for a Digital Portfolio.
    • Home (Name + Mission Statement/Career Goals/Portfolio Introduction)
    • Resume
    • References
    • Courses (with a dropdown of subpages: English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Etc.)
    • Evidence of Work
    • Contact (an inserted Google Form created as your contact form)
  • To change your Theme, click the "THEMES" tab. Here you can choose from a few theme styles, change the color format, and pick a font style for your site.

Using Weebly's Site Builder for your Digital Portfolio Development

  • Home:
    • Include name, school, and major
    • Think of this as your pitch to employers- a short paragraph on how your passions, skills, major, and/or experience make you a valuable asset to employers
    • It may be helpful to mention (depending on your portfolio's design) how to navigate the page
  • Resume (PDF version included)
  • Bio
  • Career Goals/Smart goals
  • Personal section of surveys
  • Evidence of work
    • Projects
    • Articles/Essays written
    • Presentations
    • Videos/Images of Work
    • Any other work you would like a potential employer to see
  • Letters of recommendations/evaluations/references
  • Possibly attendance records and unofficial transcripts
