The Caldwell-Travis SWCD in conjunction with the NRCS Lockhart Service Center works to connect private landowners with financial assistance for their conservation or water quality management plan.
The NRCS guides interested landowners on finding the right incentive or assistance program for producers. The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is among the most popular programs. EQIP is a cost-share program, meaning the producer and the USDA share the cost of implementing conservation practices, or activities, such as conservation planning, that address natural resource concerns on the land. For details on this incentive program, review the NRCS EQIP web page.
For landowners with property within the bounds of the Plum Creek Watershed, an additional program is available. Landowners can request a Water Quality Management Plan (WQMP) and financial assistance through cost-share is available for this program.
Landowners in the district are encouraged to contact the district office to find the best fit for their needs, land use, and resource concerns. The office can advise of the process to become a cooperator with the district and the application procedure for each of the available programs.
