A Quiet Place

By Dottie Kervin

A Quiet Place follows a family who lives in a world filled with monsters with highly sensitive hearing. The family must live in complete silence to survive. Due to this, the movie has little dialogue and the characters do not often speak. In order to fill the silence, the movie should have had a better soundtrack. The location of the movie complements the plot and characters. The environment lets the audience into the character’s world. However, there is hardly any character development throughout the course of the film. Some of the characters could have used a little more depth. The concept was great, though it was poorly executed in some areas. The movie is definitely an experience, and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a different approach to the basic horror movie. I would give it a 3 out of 5.

Avengers: Infinity War

By Kassidy Eyre

I would give this movie five stars out of five because it has a lot of action and characters presented in the film. The plot of the movie is very good, and I was at the edge of my seat for most of the movie. If you enjoy the other Marvel films, you will enjoy Avengers: Infinity War. It is a really good movie. I can’t wait for part two in 2019. I would give this movie a five out of five.

The Hate U Give

By Toni Hooker

The Hate U Give was a good movie, to say the least. The best part being the accuracy of living two lives in two worlds as one person. It clearly shows the division between white people and people of color in today’s society and shows real culture, tradition, privilege, and the reality of how people think when it comes to police brutality.

However, it ends pretty mutely. The movie really pulls on the heartstrings but doesn’t really do enough to send you over the edge, straight into a fat bucket of tears (which is what I was really hoping for). I feel that the book sent the message, “this is what’s happening and it won’t stop till we make it stop,” but the movie didn’t do enough to really show just how bad it is. Overall, The Hate U Give is an excellent narrative, but not a mind-blowing film itself.
