Step 1: Read details of the flight lesson you are on in the flight syllabus.
Step 2: Review how to perform the maneuvers listed in the flight lesson by looking through the Maneuvers Manual (chair flying is a great way to prepare).
Step 3: Dress appropriately and practice good hygiene! Wear closed toed shoes, appropriate shirts and pants, and ensure that your clothing will not compromise your safety in the case of an emergency.
Step 4: Arrive 30 minutes prior to your flight block.
Step 5: Log into the Aviation Portal using the computers in Hangar 1 (or at home before getting to the hangar) and complete:
-Weight and Balance (instructor weights are in the "directory" section of the portal and your instructor will teach you how to compute the necessary information)
-Student FRAT (this will help you decide if it is safe to fly)
-Ground lessons are built into your flight syllabus. You should come prepared to be examined on each subject area outlined in that lesson.
-A few days before your lesson you should look at the syllabus and go through each of the subject areas. You are expected to read about them in the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge or other trusted sources.
-To help you get prepared for these ground lessons we encourage you attend the weekly C.O. Pilots study sessions. These provide a judgement free environment for you to ask for help and receive guidance on study subjects.
-Additional ground lessons are free and should be scheduled by reaching out to your instructor.
