This is what you are working towards:
Private Pilot - Airplane Airman Certification Standards (FAA-S-ACS-6B)(Change 1) (PDF)
These documents detail EXACTLY what you will be tested on during your Private Pilot checkride. It lists every subject you may be tested for the ground and flight portion of the exam, as well as listing the standards required in order to pass.
Before your checkride:
Before you will be sent on your private pilot checkride you will have to pass two stage checks. Once you have passed your End of Course Exam (EOC), your instructor will schedule your checkride.
You will also have to take your FAA Written Exam. The content of this exam is the same as the tests that you took in private pilot ground school. In order to take this test you must show your instructor that you have passed 3 practice tests with a 90% or higher score or pass 1 proctored practice test with a 90% or higher score. Once you have showed your instructor one of these things you will receive an endorsement to take the test. You will then schedule this test on the 2nd floor of Hangar 1 with Jarratt Earle. This test will likely then take place in the specialized testing room of the Electronic Learning Center on SUU's campus.
This stage is focused on flight planning. The ground portion will highlight a flight plan that you create and discuss Private ACS ground topics. The flight portion will be composed of you following a flight plan that you create and then practicing a diversion and emergency procedure.
This will be the culmination of everything you have learned over the last 2 semesters! This will be the same flow and standards as is detailed in the Private Pilot ACS. If you pass this EOC you will be scheduled for your official Checkride with a DPE.
This stage will focus on flight planning. The ground portion will highlight creating and following a flight plan via headings, airspeed, and altitude calculations. Federal Aviation Regulations (FARS) and sources of weather information are also covered in this stage.
This is the culmination of the last two semesters! This stage will encompass everything on your private syllabus, with the addition of weather theory. It will follow the format of the Private Pilot Practical Test Standards (PTS) to ensure you are ready to crush your checkride. After passing EOC, you will be scheduled for your official Private Pilot Checkride with a DPE.
