Fixed Wing Only
You will use foggles during this lab to practice unusual attitudes. The foggles are used to block vision outside of the window and simulate being in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC).
In Private Certificate Lab it will be crucial that you have both a Salt Lake Sectional and a Las Vegas Sectional. These will be used for flight planning throughout the lab and checkride. Be sure that you have current charts available for any stage of checkride that you take.
The chart supplement, sometimes referred to as an "AFD," contains detail information on each airport in the depicted region. Make sure you have a CURRENT version.

This chart provides a more in depth description on the routes and procedures for busy airports. At SUU, we will primarily utilize the Las Vegas or Salt Lake City TAC charts for planning purposes.

The E6B flight calculator, along with its digital counterpart the CXB, is used for flight planning calculations including, but not limited to: obtaining density altitude, temperature conversion, airspeed information, and wind correction data.
It is recommended that students obtain a red headlight or flashlight to be used for preflighting aircraft at night.
