主動語態改為被動語態，除了須注意主詞與受詞的轉換之外，也須注意時態要一致。被動語態的各種時態雖然動詞結構比較複雜，但使用時機和主動語態是一樣的，基礎時態相關說明請參考時態篇。

由於被動語態句型中皆有be動詞，故時態的均以將be動詞修改成各種時態來呈現，過去分詞(Vpp)則不更動。詳見以下說明。

1. 主動語態改為被動語態，現在或過去時態須一致。
   例句
   主動 John opened the door.
   -->被動 The door is opened by John. (X)
   -->被動 The door was opened by John. (O)
   [主動句中的opened為過去式，故改成被動時，需使用be動詞的過去式]

2. 被動語態的動詞部分， be動詞的變化須配合時態與主詞人稱單複數。
   例句
   主動 My father feeds the dog twice a day.
   -->被動 The dog are fed twice a day by my father. (X)
   -->被動 The dog is fed twice a day by my father. (O)
   [動作的接受者the dog為第三人稱單數，故被動語態中的be動詞需使用is]

3. 使用be動詞的被動語態不可使用do/does/did作為助動詞，若要將被動語態改成疑問句型，需將be動詞移至主詞前，不須再另外加入do/does/did。而主動的疑問句要改成被動疑問句時，記得要先把do/does/did移除，把動詞改成被動語態後，再將be動詞移至主詞前。
   例句
   主動 Does the government promote the policy?
   -->被動 Does the policy promoted by the government? (X)
   -->被動 Is the policy promoted by the government? (O)
   [do/does/did僅能在主動語態使用，且後面會接原形動詞，修改後要時態要維持和原來的主動句一樣]

4. 主動語態過去式的疑問句 (或否定句 )改被動語態時，需使用 「 was/were …過去分詞 」。
   例句
   主動 Did the committee settle the dispute?
   -->被動 Is the dispute settled by the committee? (X)
   -->被動 Was the dispute settled by the committee? (O)

5. 有一些過去分詞是不規則變化。
   例句
   主動 Kevin put the wallet in the pocket.
   -->被動 The wallet was putted in the pocket by Kevin. (X)
   -->被動 The wallet was put in the pocket by Kevin. (O)

6. 未來式be going to的be動詞要搭配主詞的人稱與數量變化。
   例句
   主動 Emma is going to buy that house.
   -->被動 That house be going to be bought by Emma. (X)
   -->被動 That house is going to be bought by Emma. (O)

7. 被動語態的未來式will be和is/are/going to be中的be，是被動語態的be動詞，因受到助動詞與to的影響而改為原形，不能省略。
   例句
   主動 Emma will buy that house.
   -->被動 That house will bought by Emma. (X)
   -->被動 That house will be bought by Emma. (O)
