This week we will spend some time looking at First Nations Music. This will give you a chance to experience the differences between First Nations and Metis Music which we learned last week.
The videos below will give you a small piece of what we would talk about in class. They is a basic overview of what a Pow Wow is as well as some of the dances you would see if you were to go to a Pow Wow. There is also a dance called Hoop Dancing where the dancer uses hoops to show important symbols of the First Nations culture. This is a newer form of dancing, as you will notice with the music. However, the traditional steps are still there. The last video will teach you the basic steps of Pow Wow dancing. Give it a try. Take a picture or a video and send it to me to show me your dancing. arutz@srsd119.ca
