Instruments of the Orchestra

I think this is one of my favourite sections to teach in Music class. Everyone is so excited to see and hear the different sections of the orchestra and the instruments that are played in each section. We listened to the story Peter and the Wolf last week to hear how different instruments can represent different characters by the different timbre (sound characteristics) they produce.

This week I would like to show you each section of the orchestra. Each group has their own unique sound and seating position in the orchestra. The orchestra is lead by the conductor, the person who keeps the musicians together.

Grade 4 students, we always spend time on this unit before you have an opportunity to choose your band instrument for Grade 5 Band. This year, of course is a bit different as you did not get to try an instrument that you might be interested in for band. But not to worry, Mrs. Acorn and I will make sure you will be all set up for the fall. If you know which instrument you would like to play, please email me at arutz@srsd119.ca and let me know.

I hope you enjoy your tour of the Instruments of the Orchestra.
