Collage painting

This piece illustrates my personal idea of serenity. The horse stands stoic front and center in black and white to help contrast against the colorful scenes in the background. All of the background images feature scenery that I find very calming. The goal of this piece was to provide some serene beauty in this tumultuous time.

The initial collage was made with magazine clippings that I cut out with a razorblade and glued together on a sheet of printer paper. The painting was made with matte acrylic paint on watercolor paper. I first sectioned off the scenery with painters tape and worked on one section at a time before finishing with the horse and flowers.

If I were to recreate this work I would grid it out to make it more accurate and proportional. I would also use canvas instead of watercolor paper. I would recreate it with colored pencil instead of matte acrylic paint.
