For these pieces the main thing that guided me was the borders of things. Specifically how country borders are decided.

I used a 2h pencil to make the original outline and then I went over it with a ballpoint pen.

The processes that I went through when I made these are trying to figure out what the easiest way to orientate the leaves was and what the most simple country to draw was. The country I chose (Western Sahara) technically isn't a country but it is considered a country by some. That would make the drawing of Western Sahara an unintentional political statement. I also made the shaded regions roughly match where the population is centered but it's not very accurate.
