Clay

For this piece of artwork, I was thinking about what places were kind of shaped like a rectangle. I was trying to show that Saskatchewan in Canada is shaped like a rectangle, and I think that I did a pretty good job. I thought that Saskatchewan was the most rectangular-shaped region that would mostly fit into the piece of clay that I got.

I used the carving tools that were provided in class to carve the shapes. I also used that pink stuff which I'm pretty sure is called glaze before it was fired. I also used a heat gun to dry the glaze.

It took me a surprising amount of time to figure out what geographical region to put on this. I kinda just looked at a world map until I found a place that was shaped relatively close to the piece of clay that I had. I didn't really draw it accurately because most of the lakes are the completely wrong size or don't even look like the lake at all. I tried to make it accurate enough but the actual carving part was much more difficult than I expected.
