I would like to explore the career path hospitality and tourism because I would like to be a tour guide. It’s a good fit because I respond to challenges and exercise power by being cooperative and agreeable and these are traits suitable for a tour guide. I am also great at interacting with others by being friendly/talkative and full of energy which is very important when being a tour guide. I respond to pace and change by being orderly and efficient and patient which will be important skills to have. Also I am carefree, organized, and cautious which helps me handle constraints and procedures. I have high aesthetic values which include nature, elegance and style, this is right in line with what a tour guide needs to have because tour guides can travel all around the world and get to see different sceneries everyday. I have high social values which include opportunities that allow me to be of service to others and the progress of society. This is right in line with a tour guide because I am providing others with knowledge and background information of the land they are on and the culture. Skills I have that is important for a tour guide to have is planning/ organizing, advocacy, and time and priority management. Planning and organizing is important because as a tour guide you need to have an idea of where you are going to take your group to make sure it is a safe place that is not crowded. Time and priority management is a great skill to have because you need to keep a close eye on the time so you can show everyone all of the stops before the tour is over. When you are a tour guide you need to be able to talk in front of an audience so people advocacy is an important skill. Some values I bring to a team is being people-oriented, patient and empathetic, and I am good at turning confrontation into positives. These values will help me be a tour guide because I can turn any argument or question into a good thing and will be flexible and patient when people want to look around more. Things that I must have in order to succeed at being a tour guide is working in the day time surrounded by beauty and nature, being surrounded by people, having organization and being of service to others. I do not want to be in a bland environment that is constricted to one scenery every single day, It can’t be quiet and I don’t want to be alone. I have a high creativity work value which means I will need lots of room to do my own thing and create my own ways of doing things. By being a tour guide, I will be able to have control of what the day is going to look like which means I can be creative and make an adventure out of the day ahead. I have a high friendship and companionship work value which means I will want to make sure I chose a career that considers gives me the freedom to spend time with my family and friends. A tour guide can easily take days off to spend time with family. They make their own schedule and do not have to work everyday of the week.
I would like to explore the career path science, technology, engineering, and mathematics because I would like to be a marine biologist. I have high aesthetic values which include nature and beauty and creative self-expression which lines with being on the right track to becoming a marine biologist. As a marine biologist I can have beauty and nature in my life because I will have a beautiful scenery consisting of the ocean and wildlife. I can collect my own data and use self-expression when working to help animals. I have high social values which include contributing to the progress and well being of society, which is right in line with what a marine biologist needs to have as they will need to help animals in the ecosystem not become extinct. Creativity is my number one work value so it is important that I have enough room to exercise my imagination and creative thinking. I am able to create my day and decide what I would like to do when further researching things. My second work value is friendship and companionship so I will want to make sure that I chose a career that includes working closely with others and spending time meeting new people. I can accomplish this work value because I will be able to meet people that share the same passion as me. Skills I have are planning/organizing, time and priority management, interpersonal skills, teamwork, and advocacy, this is in line with the career I am connecting to because I am steady and consistent and will always turn my work in on time. My unique contribution to a team is I will gather data for decision making, I respect authority and organizational structure, and I work for a leader and a cause. Working for a leader and a cause is an important value to have because in order to do well, I have to be patient and listen to my boss. Also gathering data for decision making is important when being a marine biologist because you need to be able to show evidence of your findings. 2. We worked on A) prioritization, organization, time management, B) goal setting, C) self advocacy, taking initiative, D) self reflection, self-awareness, E) curiosity about our skills, strengths, careers, F) career awareness, G) and financial literacy. These components helped us get a step closer to success in class and in our work, and success is the main objective of this class.
3.
a) We practiced prioritization/organization/time management in CCR when we were looking at our top five skills, motivators, and when choosing our careers. We practiced time management in our CCR class by making it to class on time before the bell rang. Also we proved that we had time management by being focused and using your time efficiently to make sure you turned it in on the due date.
B) We practiced goal setting in CCR by learning about what makes a good goal. A good goal includes having a specific date, time and place listed in the goal you write. At the beginning of the semester we wrote out 10 goals for ourselves to work towards. Most of our goals involved something to do with each of our classes we are taking.
C) Self advocacy is the ability to take initiative and to speak up for yourself when you need help or want to share your opinion/idea. We would practice this component in CCR when we would take responsibility to communicate with others in our class or Mr. Krakora if we needed help when understanding a certain concept we are learning. We learned to take time to listen to others and respect what they have to say, and acknowledge our mistakes.
D) We learned self reflection/self awareness in our CCR class by learning about ourselves through our Indigo report. The report had many things that will be useful for colleges and teachers to see how us students work in a group. Also as a student to see how we work with ourselves and what the best situation is for students to get their work done. We reflected on our self and our learning styles in order to get results that would benefit us in our future of our career and college.
E) We practiced curiosity in our CCR class when we took our Indigo survey. We were curious about what the survey would say about us and our learning styles that would prepare us for college and our future career. We were also curious about what we were learning at the beginning of the year because when we all started this class we thought that this class would be learning about how to prepare for college and our job. This class does show us how to be prepared but what we mainly learned in this class is learning about ourselves.
F) We practiced Career Awareness in CCR when we were given the assignment to pick two job careers that would best suit our behavioral statements. For each job career we wrote a page including notes on how our must haves and don’t wants would affect the environment and job we would choose.
G) We practiced financial literacy in CCR when we learned about affluenza. Affluenza is the disease of consumerism. Which means, people that have money will keep buying and never stop. Even if they don’t need something they will buy it just because they can. Even when someone isn’t wealthy they will still be infused with affluenza so they will buy until they can’t anymore.
4. Conscientious learner is important to develop in regards to your college and or career plans because it means that you pay close attention to detail and time management. In college, we have to know the difference between right and wrong based on our actions. We have to be aware of the way we act because the negative choices we make will affect our chance of getting hired for our dream career. Colleges accept students who have a positive mindset and make good decisions that will only benefit their future rather than deteriorate. Conscientious learners are most likely to succeed in what they are majoring in because they have a desire to do what is right.
Collaboration
2. We worked on A) Active/mindful participation, B) commitment/accountability to the group, C) conflict management skills, D) Flexibility and open mindedness. These four components helped us get a step closer to having a higher chance of success in work and our class work.
3.
A) We practiced active/mindful participation in CCR when we took the Indigo survey in order to learn about ourselves and our learning styles. We had to think about the way we act on the daily so we could answer the survey questions and get accurate results. We participated in an activity that involved us to reflect deeply on ourselves which shows how we practiced this certain skill.
B) We practiced commitment/accountability in CCR when we were accountable for turning in our work on time and showing up to class every day. Also we are supposed to be committed to listening to instructions and staying on task.
C) We practiced conflict management skills in CCR when our group didn’t understand a problem. In order to solve the problem we collaborated and talked amongst each other. The most important thing was to be mindful and listen to the person sharing their idea because it helped to fix the conflict.
D) We practiced the skill of flexibility when we would work in groups. It is key to work in a group where the work is shared equally and everyone has a chance to share their opinions and ideas. A group is likely to succeed when each group member is open-minded and open to contribute when the group is in need of help.
4. Collaboration is important to develop in regards to your college and or career plans because by being collaborative you will work with others better. Working with others is important because in college you work with teams all the time because you are in the same field. Collaborators are more likely to succeed because they know how to let everyone work on the project. Also they get work done faster because they know how to solve problems my collaborating in a calm manner.
Critical Thinking
2. We worked on A) curiosity/questioning/inquiry, B) information and discovery, C) resourcefulness, D) Reasoning. These components help us get a step closer to reaching our goal of success.
3.
A) We practiced curiosity/questioning/inquiry in CCR when we didn’t understand a problem so we had to be curious and ask the teacher questions in order to get the answer. Also CCR is a new course to us so we had to be passionate about this class and have a desire to want to learn about ourselves through what Mr. Krakora teaches us.
B) We practiced information and discovery in CCR when we watched videos on the most important concepts we were learning in class. We learned a significant amount of information when watching the Affluenza video, which taught us how to spend and save our money wisely. We practiced discovery in CCR by taking the Indigo survey, which helped us to learn more about ourselves and our learning styles. By discovering more about ourselves, it helps us to prepare for when we apply for college and our future career.
C) We practiced resourcefulness in CCR when we used our materials to solve problems we were experiencing during CCR. We used our “Career Choices and Changes” book to help us answer questions that we might have been asked to answer. Another resource we used was our classmates to help us understand the concepts we are learning.
D) We practiced reasoning in CCR while we were working on our Indigo survey because when we were answering the questions we had to base it off of logic instead of our own opinion. If we didn’t answer the questions logically then our scores would be totally opposite.
4. Critical thinking is important to development in regards to your college and or career plans because as a college student your tasked with engaging and expanding your critical thinking skills. In careers you are faced with real world problems so being able to question and solve problems will help you get out of problems. Critical thinking is a good skill to carry on with us as we go on in our future because we will be able to think for ourselves instead of relying on other people for help when it comes to challenges.
B) The gift of value of money.
C) Gift of friendship.
D) The gift of Learning.
E) The gift of problems/hardship.
F) The gift of family.
G) The gift of laughter.
H) The gift of dreams.
I) The gift of giving.
J) The gift of Gratitude.
K) The gift of a day.
L) The gift of love.
M) THe gift of legacy.
This relates to what we are addressing in CCR because throughout the school year we have been working on ourselves and our success. Your legacy you leave behind is all about you and what you will do to make an impact on your life. Success comes from the thirteen gifts we learned about in the video. Your connections and skills we learned from this course connect to the video because it’s how you interpret these gifts.
