Once a week in Stem Engineering class, my classmates and I were tasked to watch drawing tutorial videos on different sketching/drawing concepts. Every week I watched around five videos that explained how to draw in orthographic, perspective, isometric, front and side viewpoints. For every video I watched, I took bullet point notes on the most important topics. Then in pencil I sketched the examples from the videos on white pieces of paper. The notes and sketches were labeled and titled neatly.
Picture plane: analogous to the sheet of paper we sketch on
Ground plane: where the viewer stands
Split lines: occur when rotating viewpoint of object
Vantage point: the viewers point of view
Center line: appears in the middle of the v-intersection
Sphere: curves around its latitude and longitude
Ghost line: light line weight
Vignette: heavy line weight
3D Modeling: process of creating digital representation of objects
I lacked determination towards the past couple of weeks when it came to the drawing tutorials. After awhile I wasn't too interested in learning how to sketch random objects. In my opinion I knew how to draw in perspective and isometric viewpoints. Since I was confident, my drive to take the time to sketch minute details faded. Instead I went through the motions. However, I should never have the mindset that I know everything and I can't get better. I realized that the videos were teaching me different things I had never heard of. Even though this was an individual assignment I could have reached out to my group mates or teacher about questions I had from the video. When specific designs or lines popped up that didn't make sense I just brushed it off instead of asking someone for clarification.
By having great time management skills, I was able to complete all drawing tutorials before the due date. I dedicated a specific time 2 days out of the week to solely work on the videos. By only having my engineering notebook and a couple of pieces of paper out I was invested in one thing only. Time management helped me make sure I wasn't rushing through the videos. My sketching skills and focus to detail also shinned through in this ongoing assignment. I made sure to include ghost lines and thicker lines and hatch marks. I also took the time to shade objects and add shadows. Whenever it commented on a specific component in the sketch I made sure to label my drawings with words.
