TASK: Me and my partner had the task to create 5 different models of the solar system
MODEL 1: In model 1 we did it in our notebook about how we think the planets are lined up then we started Model 2
MODEL 2/3: We did model 2 on a long piece of paper with the planets in order and to scale. In model 3 we added 5 facts about each planet and colored them.
MODEL 4: Before we started model 4 we took important notes to complete model 4 well. On model 4 we made a poster. Me and my partner analyzed the data for NASA and made a phenomenon. Our phenomenon was that gravity relates to size. My partner and I worked together to find the equation, phenomenon explanation, table, limitations, modification and unanswered questions.
MODEL 5: In model 5 we made a poster with writing on both sides explaining the orbital factors and showing some calculations. The first page was split into 4 parts all the boxes had something different in it explaining different predictions relating to each other. On the other side of the poster we did predictions of planet X and Y and earth (planet X and Y were made up by my teacher) We found gravity due to gravity for us if we were on the planet. We also did what would be the orbital velocity
Ag - (Acceleration due to gravity) Acceleration of an object on another planet
Equation: ag=Gmplanet/r2planet
Fg - (law of universal gravitation) The force of mutual attraction between massive objects
Equation: Fg=Gm1m2/r^2
V - (Orbital velocity) Speed of a satellite orbiting an object
Equation: v=d/t or v=2πr/t
In this project we learned about our solar system and how everything works with each other. We learned how to find two/threes thing that relate with each other. From that we made an equation to show the relation between the info. The thing we pieced together is the bigger the planet the greater the gravity. After we saw that it worked we started doing the calculations on planet X. Later on we used our prior knowledge to find the orbital period and "our weight" plant X and Y.
This was the first project we did in pairs. I found this experience really fun and I think this project really brought me closer to that person too. I think this unit really expanded my thinking because I have never really learned something like this so deeply. In this unit I notice that I am really good at communication and problem solving. Something that I need to work on in focusing on what I'm doing and planning out what I'm going to do before I do it because I would be working on the project but then I would get to a point where I forgot to do something first so I would go back and do it and after I finished I can't focus back to what I was working on prior to that. Although that was a problem, my partner learned how to help each other when we would have a mental block.
