Marine Microbes

The Project

We learned about a wide variety of marine microbes during this lesson and how crucial they are to the health of the entire ocean ecosystem. The majority of the total biomass in all the oceans is made up of these tiny organisms. easily surpassing the total weight of all blue whales in the ocean! We used microscopes to examine actual bacteria while taking notes and making posters. Microbes come in thousands of different species, and each one has a unique set of characteristics that aids in its survival. Some have glass-like shells, while others contain flagella, which are tiny propellers that aid in movement. Through playing engaging Kahoots, we also put our understanding of these organisms into practice. I had no clue bacteria were so significant and distinctive.

Content

Bacteria- ubiquitous, mostly free-living organisms often consisting of one biological cell. They constitute a large domain of prokaryotic microorganisms.

Microbes- A microorganism, or microbe, is an organism of microscopic size, which may exist in its single-celled form or as a colony of cells.

Protists- a single-celled organism of the kingdom Protista, such as a protozoan or simple alga.

Archaea- Archaea is a domain of single-celled organisms. These microorganisms lack cell nuclei and are therefore prokaryotes.

Viruses- submicroscopic infectious agent that replicates only inside the living cells of an organism. Viruses infect all life forms, from animals and plants to microorganisms, including bacteria and archaea.

Amoeba- a single celled eukaryotic organism that has no definite shape and that moves by means of pseudopodia.

Cyanobacteria- a division of microorganisms that are related to the bacteria but are capable of photosynthesis. They are prokaryotic and represent the earliest known form of life on the earth.

Reflection

Working effectively was one thing I performed well overall during this task. In a relatively short period of time, both tasks required a significant quantity of writing and research. And I was able to finish them both on time. I also did a good job of arranging my notes for this assignment. I was able to better understand the material and produce a better result by numbering and spacing my notes. If I had more time, I could have colored my illustrations better for this project. This would have provided them a slightly more realistic appearance. I also should have double-checked my notes with additional sources before I wrote them down. By verifying information, I could be positive that it was accurate and I wouldn't have to worry about my project's accuracy.
