History of Marine Bio Timeline

Evidence of work

We are just finishing up our third week of school and we did this project in order to understand where Marine Biology has come from, where it is now in the present, and where it will go in the future. We learned about gatherers from millions of years ago using marin organisms for food sources and other resources, Aristotle who was considered to be the first Marine Biologist, and the new technologies we have today in order to find out more about our oceans.

We began this process by taking notes and researching each of the main topics within the timeline. Next we ordered them from latest in history to most recent and we found out the exact dates of each, a brief description of each event/object, and the significance it has had on Marine Biology. We transferred this onto a poster including pictures of each part of the timeline in order to educate everyone coming into the classroom, about how far Marine Biology has come.

Reflection

This project was a great introduction to our year of Marine Biology because it gave us background information of some of the topics we will be learning about this year. Learning about and researching all the topics made me excited for what is going to come this year because I am very passionate about our environment and oceans.

While most groups had four students per group Ramses and I were a two person group, so we had to work a little bit harder than most groups but we made it work. We contributed very well and had great communication and we were actually able to finish our poster before the majority of groups that had four people. We made sure to get our research done and if we had extra to do we finished it at home in order to get as much time in class to do our poster. To maximize work time we also split of the work. I started by writing down all the events and then Ramsis would start on the images that would go with each event and description. We made sure that we were working as much as we could and did not waste any time. The timeline project was ideal and a perfect way to prepare for this year's class.
