Description
The purpose of this project was to study the ways that our bodies can maintain homeostasis. Our group chose to study how our bodies can maintain glucose levels. We were given a data table and used this data to conduct an expirement for our project. Our expiriment consisted of 4 steps, first, we eat bread and wait 10 minutes, second, we prick our fingers, third, we put the prick into the meter, fourth, we wait and repeat the process. Throughout this process we found that our blood sugar rises after eating the bread and that it would drop back down 15 minutes after eating the bread.
Content
Independent Variable: A variable (often x) that does not depend on the other variable.
Dependent Variable: A variable (often y) that does depend on the other variable.
Constant: The part that does not change during the experiment.
Control: A variable that remains unchanged or unaffected by other variables.
Experimental: A set of experimental conditions used for collecting some experimenting observations.
Homeostasis: The tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by a psychological process.
Hypothesis: A scientific estimation made with no data at the start of an experiment.
Feedback Mechanism: A psychological regulation system in a living body that works ot return the body to its normal internal state or commonly known as homeostasis.
Scientific Method: An empirical method for acquiring knowledge that has characterized the development of science.
Conclusion
Overall, I learned a lot during this project. It was very interesting learning about the ways that our bodies maintain homeostasis in different ways. Two things that my group and I did very well this project was having good collaboration and critical thinking. To accomplish this project my group and I split up the work and allowing eachother to have a certain part to work on and be able to show the others in our group what they did. If I did this project again I would put more detail into my poster and spend more time on the pre-work/research and less time on the actual look of the final product. Overall my group and I did very well on this project and I can now use these skills I used towards this project on other projects in the near future.
