The paint gave life to a wasteland of gray and slightly-lighter-gray squares. It made the whole thing a lot brighter, too. To an annoying extent, honestly. But despite that, I think the whole thing looks pretty good. The grass makes the place look lively and lush, and the farmland made it look used. I do wish there was a better rocky texture, because the mountain tops being beige of all colours is just atrocious.
I put grass as a base to start. At first I didn't put grass on the tops of the hills, and I put gravel around the tip of the lake. I didn't like how it looked, so I replaced the gravel with grass, and the grass on the hills with gravel. I also put gravel at the bottom of the river, before the video telling me to do so I might add.
The water added a significant pop of colour. Though the water is just a flat plane with an exceptionally deceptive texture, it does add some much needed motion to the currently still scene. It also made the area less dead, at least until plants are added, because it gives the grass a source of their almost neon green hue. What it doesn't do is stop the player from walking right off the edge off the map, which I hope is to be rectified with either actual swimming or invisible walls. It will certainly look better when trees are added. Then, it will be another part of the living world, increasing immersion.
I accidentally textured the whole thing before taking pictures for this reflection, whoops
