Creativity made my world unique by coaxing me into adding a massive wizard tower instead of simply making more villages, or fancier houses. The variation in structure types make the world feel lived in, because it has so many different environments instead of just village after village. Now, my world has a lot more interesting aspects to it, more than just the mystery of its uninhabited state. Decoration can give reason or hints to an event or secret. The decoration serves as a set dressing and can show the player why the game's story is one that should be paid attention to. Using contrast of shapes can also direct a player where to go, like the empty area beside the tower leading the player to the gem.
