Mia: Reflection (Research)
Description (at least 5 sentences):
I wrote a research note which required me to draw/sketch pictures about the information and take notes about Child Labor. I wrote 20 pieces of paper. One paper answer to one driving question that we created before. It required us to write the actual note take and main idea/vocabulary. Also it required to write the summary of the note taken.
Core Value Connection (at least 4 sentences):
I demonstrated the core value, effective problem solver , in this task. It is because I researched Child Labor to share why Child Labor is bad and defeat child labor one step at a time. That can lead to solving the problem of Child Labor. Also, I had not only shared the research, I included it in my writing so that there will be more research on it.
Reflection (at least 6 sentences total):
This work shows my growth in understanding of having good quality research. For research note paper, for one piece of paper, it is required to use at least 2 sources and have good quality research.
I learned that as the source is trusted more, the information will be well trusted and can be used in formal essays or things we share to other people.
One thing that worked well was sketching and writing notes because when the researching information is done, it just needs the important information written and drawn.
One thing that was challenging was researching because especially from close to 20 pieces, there wasn’t anything to research any more. If I were to do this activity again, I would use the same source so that the source can be used again and again.
Mia: Reflection (Writing)
Description (at least 5 sentences):
I wrote a persuasive writing about why child labor needs to be stopped. I included Pathos, Ethos, and Logos which are 3 main persuasive techniques. I did peer edit on the first draft and also the self edit. When writing the final draft, there was a check list for writing a good quality essay. I wrote a reflection on my exhibition website.
Core Value Connection (at least 4 sentences):
I demonstrated the core value, effective communicator, in this task. It is because I change perspective to make the essay more persuasive. I used many persuasive techniques so that the essay looks better. Also, when I was thinking of reasons(claim), I thought of what reason will make the audience want to know more about Child Labor.
Reflection (at least 6 sentences total):
This work shows my growth in understanding of persuasive devices. I learn the appeal of each device and learn how to include it in the writing. I learned that persuasive devices, pathos, ethos, logos, are appealing to emotion, authority, and logic. One thing that worked well was actually writing (first) because I just wrote it without thinking about the rubric and it was easier to write with no rubric or check list. One thing that was challenging was when I started writing with a check list. It was because the check list required me to write many sentences and information from many sources. If I were to do this activity again, I would research more information from many sources and have more information about it.
Solon: Reflection (Research)
Description (at least 5 sentences):
I worked on practicing my note making. I also practiced citations, and citing facts. Then I wrote my facts into research notes. I did this 14 times.
Core Value Connection (at least 4 sentences):
I demonstrated the core value, Effective Problem Solver, in this task. It is because I struggled a lot but still got a lot done. Also, I finished a lot of research notes before others in my class did I wasn’t behind but I wasn’t that ahead.
Reflection (at least 6 sentences total):
This work shows my growth in understanding how to take notes and organize ideas. Before, I would copy from the text, but now I use my own words. I also learned how to use citations the right way. I learned that a facts wheel helps me see the main idea and details. One thing that worked well was writing in my own words because it helped m e understand more. One thing that was challenging was choosing the most important details because there was a lot of information. If I were to do this again, I would take more time to pick the best details.
Solon: Reflection (Writing)
Description (at least 5 sentences):
I made a very good essay that had an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. I used all of the different writing Persuasive Devices. I used Logos, Pathos, and Ethos. These three Persuasive Devices helped me make an all around solid essay.
Core Value Connection (at least 4 sentences):
I demonstrated the core value, effective problem solver, in this task. It is because I had to make many edits so that I could get a check. Also, while I tried to get a check I had tips from my classmates, I peer checked, self checked and got a check from Ms. Christy.
Reflection (at least 6 sentences total):
This work shows my growth in understanding of writing/ pathos, logos, and ethos because I made an essay that I am very proud of. Also because I have the meaning of each memorized. I learned that it is very hard to make an essay that sounds complete without using every Persuasive Device and it is very important to have the right text structure. One thing that worked well was trying to remember exactly what each persuasive device meant because that would help me know exactly what I needed to write. One thing that was challenging was editing because I couldn’t tell where I needed to change. If I were to do this activity again, I would try to edit more from Ms. Christy and peers.

Week 9(April 13-April.17)
I wrote a persuasive writing about why child labor needs to be stopped. In the essay, I include pathos, ethos, and logos which I learned in this unit. Pathos appeals to emotions, ethos appeals to authority, and logos appeals to logic. Before actually writing there was a paper to write information about child labor which is pathos, ethos, and logos. After writing that, I actually started writing the first draft. I printed out that and have self check and peer edit. Then I started the final draft and I edited based on a comment that was on my first draft. The challenging thing was that when writing the first draft, it was hard to connect the information and make sure there was a lot of information in it. What went well was finding information for pathos, ethos, and logos.

Week 9(April 13-April.17)
This week, I finished my first draft and started peer edits with my peers. I had to put more specific sentences in my introduction and conclusion paragraph. I copied my first draft and fixed some parts, and I printed it out. The challenging part was editing because there were a lot of parts to edit. The easy part was peer edit.
