The material we used is brass.
Driving Question: As an Engineer why is it important to study material properties?
Learning Target: Students will learn about Stress and Strain and take notes on Stress Vs. Strain Curve
Project Description: In this project we were asked to select a dog bone with our choice of material (brass, aluminum, steel). We then put the dog bone in a tensile tester and recorded its results. We recorded the dog bone's diameter before the test and after the test, we then observed that the material stretched and shortly after it broke. Using our graph we recorded various points that showed how the dog bone had changed.
What I learned: In this project I learned that different materials have different breaking points. I also learned how to analyze a Stress Vs. Strain Curve of the dog bone we used for testing. This project also taught me different formulas and equations I could use to calculate important properties of a material.
