Isometric picture of our lab work
Project description:
This project was to use a beam to find the weight of a person. Using given formulas and equations we calculated the weight of a person using just a beam. We used various measuring tools to find the dimensions of our structure.
Project Procedure:
You will determine the weight of one of your classmates using nothing more than a standard 2x4 and a measuring device. This activity will provide you with a better understanding of Moment of Inertia and how it can be be used to determine the strength of beams.
Conclusion:
1. You can change the Moment of Inertia of a beam by rotating it on it's other side without changing it's cross-sectional area.
In this project I learned that there are ways of calculating the weight of someone without using a scale. This gives an alternate solution if you don't have a weighing scale. I also learned how to calculate for different variables such as the Elasticity of a material. With a simple piece of wood I was able to calculate a person's weight.
