Artistic Intention

I chose to utilize Curtin's idea of a collage with historical images in the shape of a typical era house. My project is meant to shed light on the Great Depression, which later led to the Resettlement Era. To better display the Great Depression, I appropriated Jacob Riis's images from his project "How the Other Half Lives." Riis is famous for his photos of the poor living conditions in tenement houses during the Great Depression. His photos helped raise awareness to the wealth gap issue during this time period. My project is a tribute to both Julia Curtin and Jacob Riis.
