Final Report of Wharton Investment Competition

What my objective was?

The objective of this project is to look over a brief case study from a client and to work as a team to meet his long-term investment goal. We have to buy and sell stock in the Wharton Investment Simulator over 10 weeks by using $100,000 in virtual cash and we have to research each of stocks that we think it is good to buy from each sector. We always have to think about his goals before choosing to buy or sell stocks with our strategy. After finishing all the tasks, we have to do the final report, which consist of Portfolio at a Glance, Summary of our Strategy and our Uniqueness, Trading Notes Analysis, our Investment Strategies, Client Knowledge, Portfolio Analysis, and Articulation of Competition Experience. 

What I did and How I did it?

Previously, we had to separate the work for each individual since we don't have the same free time and the first draft has to be finished before submitting the final one in three days. Therefore, I have a task to complete the Portfolio at a Glance and clients part. However, after seeing our first draft, we tried editing together, so we can submit the work in the time that they set. Also, before submitting final report, I have to recheck the overall of the report like text size, grammar, and the organization in the report to make it good. I try to put most of my time to this report and help other people in the group to complete it.

What I learned?

I learned many things from this competition. Firstly, I have to do it with other four people, so it makes me practicing doing the work in team. Everyone have to contribute the work. If someone doesn't do the work, it will increase the work to others. I learned about researching to make us know that which sector and companies that we can choosing to trade. Moreover, I learned more about myself that I like to study finance or not, so I can apply it into university.

Problems that we had

For the problems that my group met during the final report are having different free time, so it hard to work together at the same time to write the report. We have to separate the work, then if someone finished their work, they will help others to complete it. Also, one of our team member didn't come to school for many weeks, so he cannot do some detail, but he still help us to do the work. Lastly, we cannot submit the work in the web that they gave due to some problems, but I already mailed to Wharton and they let us to send it in mail.

• To do this report, we have to work as a team to exchange idea and write it. I listen to others all the time because I want to make the high quality of work. I am the one who check the overall and change it if it has something wrong. I am not waiting for someone to do it at the last minute.
