Broadcast Club

What can you do with one ipad and a tripod, a green screen, a free touchcast app, imovie, one imac, eight creative third graders and a goal? A weekly broadcast show consisting of school news, local weather, area sports, a funny joke, book reviews, special events, and interviews!

Here are a few examples of our LCTV [Lewis and Clark TV] News on Nashua [our school is on Nashua Road] broadcast. All of our broadcasts can be found here.

I had wanted to start a broadcast club for several years and it just didn't get off the ground until the 2016-2017 school year. I jumped in by beginning the application process with interested third graders. Once the eight members were selected, we began our journey of trying to set a schedule, determine content, and find a time to meet during the day. We settled on meeting during their recess and my lunch time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Not everyone had to attend all 3 days, it just depended on their current job. We have switched jobs often so that all 8 kids were able to be the newsperson and then other jobs of choice.

  • Producer-Comes on Wednesday and Thursday
  • Camera Person-Comes Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Sports, Weather, News, and Joke-Tuesday and a 2nd day if necessary
  • Special Events-Tuesday and then conducts interviews

We also work on other special event video productions such as documenting our LC Serves week. A week long service project where each grade level selects a project to work on that benefits others.
