Jubileans know that going to Robinsons Magnolia basically guarantees seeing a schoolmate. Ever since its opening in 2012, RobMag has been teeming with Jubileans. The mall is considered a prime meeting place for elementary and high school students because it is near both JCA campuses. Across the years, there are certain Jubilean “rituals,” so to speak, that developed. Honestly, all Jubileans are probably already aware of these. While the so-called “rituals” Jubileans often do at RobMag are very familiar to them, teachers, parents, and other staff might not know exactly what draws almost the entire student population to the well-established mall, much less what they plan on doing.
Eating in Establishments
Despite the nearly 70 restaurants and food stalls to be found at RobMag, students can honestly be picky. Their favorites include Starbucks, Ramen Nagi, and the food court (Pepper Lunch and Bon Chon).
Malling makes students thirsty too, which is why many turn to Starbucks for their sugary drink needs. Starbucks has a wide selection of coffee options perfect for burnt out, sleep-deprived high school students after major exams. They also offer quite a few coffee-free options, which is why the establishment is still popular with the younger audience.
Ramen Nagi is a great restaurant for those looking for quality ramen, speedy service, and tasty side dishes. However, its prices are sky-high. The Original King, most commonly known as Butao, is now priced at ₱420. This was especially disappointing as this is a fan-favorite. Not only that, but adding a side of Tamago (marinated soft boiled egg) now costs ₱80.
In contrast, the food court area offers much more inexpensive options. Options definitely do not lack umami, though. Pepper Lunch is one of the food court’s most visited establishments due to its wide menu, large servings, and savory platters. Its concept is unique as well. All of their dishes are served on hot plates that keep the food warm, fighting the chill of the mall. Bon Chon is also in the food court area, and many enjoy ordering this Korean-style chicken with a side of white rice. There are many flavors for them to choose from, which heightens the restaurant’s appeal.
Shopping in Stores
After filling up with food, most— if not all— students enjoy going clothes shopping. RobMag is perfect for this, as the mall has a variety of clothing stores to choose from. However, Jubileans most enjoy H&M and Uniqlo due to its budget-friendly, quality clothing options. The former store sells both trendy clothes and basics, while the latter is more focused on comfortable yet stylish lifestyle wear. No other stores compare to these two when it comes to quality in exchange for low prices.
Additional Activities
Aside from eating and shopping, students also kill time by going to Timezone. Here, they play arcade games, billiards, bowling, and more. The alumni would know that Timezone was not always the place to be— students used to hang out at Tom’s World instead.
Sometimes, some also want to brave the Philippine heat to take pictures or play games in natural light. RobMag’s central garden is perfect for this, as the fake grass ensures that clothes stay clean. Many enjoy the sun, but generally go back into the mall after some time.
Recommendations
While these activities are all well and good, they can get repetitive and tiring after a while. You may look into Puffy’s Souffle Pancakes and Koomi for merienda needs and Frankie’s New York Buffalo Wings, Pho Hoa, and Ippudo for meals. Students can also choose to spend time seeing a film at the mall’s movie theater or playing with puppies at the doggy park.
All in all, RobMag is now an integral part of Jubilean culture. These “rituals” are students’ favorite ways to both relieve stress, strengthen friendships, and form new ones. I, personally, will miss participating in these activities after leaving Jubilee, and I am sure that my fellow seniors will too.
