Misawa Air Base has a medical clinic and dental clinic; however, due to limited medical staffing, civilians are seen on a space available (Space A) basis.
You may be referred to seek medical services off base. There are many medical providers who studied in the US and speak English.
The Japanese culture is minimalist, so there are few private hospital rooms.
Japanese medical facilities are “pay as you go” and they do not file your insurance for you. However, they will provide you with the documentation you need to file with your insurance company for reimbursement.
Be prepared to pay for your medical services with yen or your credit/debit card.
