MCAS Iwakuni has a branch health clinic, dental clinic and flight medicine; however, due to limited medical staffing, civilians are seen on a space available (Space A) basis. Depending upon your medical needs, you may be referred to seek medical services at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka or off-base.
There are many medical providers off-base who studied in the US and speak English.
The Japanese culture is minimalist, so there are few private hospital rooms.
Japanese medical facilities are “pay as you go” and they do not file your insurance for you. However, they will provide you with the documentation you need to file with your insurance company for reimbursement. Be prepared to pay for your medical services with yen or your credit/debit card.
