In today’s fast-changing global world, it is important to help students build global awareness and understand different cultures. This lesson focused on cultural exchange between students in Taiwan and the U.S., using the Dragon Boat Festival and St. Patrick’s Day to improve English skills and cultural understanding.
The teacher used English to introduce the history and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival. Students made paper rice dumplings, scented sachets, and tried the egg-standing activity to learn the meaning behind the traditions. The activities were recorded and shared with U.S. partner students. In return, American students shared photos of how they celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and sent handmade cards and candy to us. Students from both countries used mail and online platforms to connect, make friends, and learn to respect and appreciate different cultures. This exchange helps prepare students to be global citizens in the future.
