Remote Learning Quick Start Guide

Hello teachers and parents,

We know many schools and families are making plans to be prepared should there be a coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in their community.

Watch our step-by-step video to using Khan Academy for remote learning. Then download the QuickStart Guide to start setting things up.

We understand that many folks want to better understand their options for learning at home. We’ve created resources, and are hosting webinars, to help you get the most out of Khan Academy.

Khan Academy is a free resource for students, teachers, and parents.

Students can learn and practice skills with our personalized, mastery-based learning system. Instructional videos help students learn or review material, and our exercises, quizzes, and tests give students the opportunity to practice and master skills.

  • Created by experts, Khan Academy’s library of trusted, standards-aligned practice and lessons covers math kindergarten through early college, grammar, science, history, AP®, SAT®, and more.

  • Students practice skills with exercises, quizzes, and mastery challenges and get immediate feedback and support.

  • We help students stay engaged by giving them the ability to track their progress and demonstrate mastery of new skills.

  • Khan Academy is available in over 40 languages.

  • Students without laptops can access the Khan Academy website or use the Khan Academy app on smartphones.

Teachers get tools and reports designed specifically for them.

  • Teachers can easily assign students an entire course—Algebra 1 or AP Biology, for example—a specific unit, or a specific skill.

  • Teachers can easily track student progress with our reports.

School and teacher resources: How can you use Khan Academy?

Also, we’ll host a free webinar for teachers who would like to learn how to use Khan Academy on Thursday, March 12, at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT.

WONDERFUL Resource

This is a trying time for everyone.

As a mission-focused non-profit, it is Khan Academy’s duty to do our part to ensure students keep learning amidst the school closures. We also want to support teachers and parents to the best of our ability as we navigate this crisis together.

These schedules are meant to be templates that you could adopt as is or copy and modify to better suit the needs of your children, classroom or district. As you see in the schedules below, Khan Academy does have self-paced, interactive content--exercises, videos and articles--for students in every grade and in most major subject areas. It is all free and non-commercial and is made possible by philanthropic support from people like you. Teachers and parents can also use our teacher tools to monitor progress and assign specific work. This could be made even more powerful if it is complemented with Google Hangout, Zoom or Skype video conference sessions with teachers and classmates. For example, teachers can hold video conference “office hours” during the day where students can go to get questions answers and teachers can monitor student progress on goals. The video conference office hours could also be done by parent volunteers or older students (different parents can choose to “cover” different parts of the day or different subjects based on their expertise). We are also having daily (weekdays) 9am PST/12 EST live streams on Facebook and YouTube for students, parents and teachers navigating school closures.
